This is a discussion on useing ConvertXtodvd to create a menu within the Authoring and Editing forums, part of the DVD Backup Recording forum category; I'm looking to do something similar. I didn't start a new thread because it seems to be the same issue. ...

I'm looking to do something similar. I didn't start a new thread because it seems to be the same issue. I'm not married to any software. So, I'm open to anything that will do. Efficiently, quickly, easily, cheaply/free and robust would of course be nice.

I want to download episodic TV in avi or other container format, perhaps tweak quality if possible but standardize size per episode without reducing quality if the originator created a file larger than it had to be to maintain HDTV, 720p, x264 quality.

I'd also like to be able to rip my Episodic TV DVD sets to put on disc with my own menu. That way I can include only favorite episodes and delete useless adverts, menus notices and other crap to fit as much of the good stuff on a disc to travel.

I want to put as many episodes as possible on a DVD that will play in any DVD player.
In some cases where the player allows, I may want to put it on CD.

I want to create a menu. It would be great if it could be a moving picture menu but a snap shot from an episode or a wallpaper of the cast of the series would be fine.

I want to be able to use the menu to navigate to any episode and to be able to return to the menu at any time. It should jump back to the menu when an episode has completed. A resume feature would be cool to go back to where you were viewing if you went to the menu by mistake or had to leave the room. I don't know if that's a disc feature or a player feature.

I want to be able to jump to sections within each episode perhaps every 5-minutes.

It would be cool to be able to add music from an episode or from a CD or wav or from my voice to the menu that either loops or randomly plays different voice overs.

I'd like to do this on DVD and perhaps to a minor extent on CD.
I put an AVI on a CD which did play in a cheap DVD player but not in the expensive one that CLAIMED to support CD Video.

Thank you very much for your advice and knowledge.
Any advice, urls and tutorials are greatly appreciated.

I will do some searching for you mate, but be prepared as what you are wanting to do, in the detail you are wanting to do it in, will require some pretty in depth editing. Not just the normal loading of the file in a single program and come back when it is done.

Using convert X to dvd 4

select the tab - setting , scroll down to dvd menus- the select one , i would use for episodes vso templates clear with either 4 or 6 slots
whilst there i would also select "play titles after each other" , good if your planning a night of catching up on telly

now its just a process of dragging your episodes in order into the app

now on the + button on the top where it states dvd options you can select title menu parameters and change the menu to a motion one, the second option "background video"
choose "use a custom video" and a pop up will ask for the file location , you can also select the starting point for the video , it goes up in 5 second blocks

auto chapters are usually at the 5 minute mark.

the resume function is more a player function.
