    DVD Blank Media Discussion

As the title says this is for discussing blank media (dvd). Feel free to post on your favorites and the ones you wished had never been manufactured, . Post what speeds worked best and what didn't give the desired results. I would also like to see any quality scans that you may have as well. Although for now we should probably just stick to links and no images.

So to start things off, my favorite is Taiyo Yuden TYG02 @ 8x.

got to be verbatum, i used to get blank dvds made by verbatum but without their name on them £5 for 25 but the shop has closed down rofl they where good to and region free, i brought some sony dvd- once pure shite i thought they would be good having the sony name on, i find the £1 shop blank cds as good as owt really just the job for data storage, camera pics and vid, 7 for £1 yet their dvds arent worth a ham shank

I've had extremely good luck thus far with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. TYG02 has done very well for me, burned at either 8x or 10x...depending on my mood.

My 2 favorite are TDK's 16x DVD+R(coding out as of late as ritek F-16) and RiData 16x DVD+R (coding out as Ritek R05-01). I do all of my burns at between 10x and 12x.

The Sony +R disks made in Taiwan are usually pretty good disks, I would rate them third behind TYs and Verbatim, in my opinion. Although as rtm posted he has had very good results with TDK media.

I've had great luck not just with Sony +R's but with Office Depot branded that code out as RICHOJPN. For as cheap as they are, i've had great results.

My favorite thing about the Sony discs is the nice white surface. Easy to write on with a Sharpie.

And of course, I am one of the few on aD who will stand up and defend TDK from being called crap media.

Just remembered, I need to get more dvd's...I'm down to about 60 blanks.

I went to radio shack and decided to get some of their Gigaware branded +r's. They were out, but the manager ordered 6 25-ct spindles. Not to bad, for $5.99 a pack. They have free shipping, and I should get them wednesday.

    From bratcher on aD:

Ritek seems to burn good in my experience. So do most CMC discs except for some Memorex CMC's I bought who's burn test results were only fair (I've seen better with CMC) but I burned the whole spindle anyway & they read back fine for both data & video plus a few TDK CMC discs burned by a friend who's test results were horrible. I gave him some Sony to reburn the stuff on & they tested great. Perhaps his burner doesn't like CMC for some reason.

Radio Shack's Gigaware brand codes out as both Ritek & Ricohjpn. Both burn very well.

Thanks for the info bro. Will have to check and see if the local Radio Shack carries any.

I would be at a complete panic... Can't have to many blanks on the shelves. Me bride has asked me many times... "How many do you need?" wellllllll... the answer is "HOW MANY DO YOUR KIDDIES MESS UP?????".... hehehe. :P OF course she blames that on me as they're mine too.

What brands does the GM favor?

If still in production.... the ONE and ONLY Taiyo Yuden YUDEN T02 (8X DVD +R)

BEST disc ever made if you ask me.. I have about 250 left but they is for special movies... Like the Dark Knight!! You ever heard of it??

    Others that are worthy IMO.

    TY TYG02
    TY TYG03
MCC 003 (got some of these left too )
    MCC 004
    MCC 02RG20
    MCC 02RG30
    CMC MAG AM3
TDK 003 (don't see these any more... and I'm out IIRC)

NOT a fan of Ritek or Ridata but use the mini-DVD DVD-R 4x's for backups of GC games. I've used many of the Ritek R03-02 (DVD+R 8X) and had pretty good luck with them. I've only used a hand full of the Ritek R05 (DVD+R 8X) and don't like 'em at all.... my experience so don't judge them by that... I know a few that have had GOOD success with them. Just NOT my rig or burners for some reason.

I haven't found a GREAT DVD+R CMC MAG disc yet but the CMC MAG M01 disc does ok, NOT perfect but ok. The CMC MAG E01 is a good disc if you can find a burner that likes them... BUT good luck on that too. .

As always and like a GOOD friend used to say.. "it's my experience that I go by so take that into consideration."!! Well something like that at least. . "QUOTE" by the GREAT docTY btw.

Well, it did take me a while to get down this low. After buying out the 2 closest radio shacks of their TDK stock (around 800 disks) in february, it has taken me a while to get this low. Have 125 Gigaware coming in wednesday and I should be ready to buy some RiData from newegg, as they are still $19.99 for 100ct spindle.

    RTM,

There's NOTHING wrong with those Riteks from the EGG. I ordered a 100 count here a while back just to try and they did ok. I found about 5 that had some "weird" streaks in them and just thru them away. IF you can wait and get the sale price DOWN to $17.99 delivered you'd be making a killling if you ask me.

How you doing btw?? All ok down in South Central Texas??

I'm going to have to get some of those Gigaware's then. I've had wonderful good luck with RICHOJPN's and thus have a fondness for them. Could also be cuz i'm cheap.

    NOT cheap... just thrifty.

I've purchased a lot of "questionable" media in the last few years and the MOST surprising has been the CMC MAG AM3 for me. I know that some don't have that great of luck with it but it does well for me. BTW the LG discs at Meritline were the CMC MAG AM3 media if you didn't know. I can't remember if you read the "blank media sales" thread at AD.
