TDK Creates 320GB 10 layer Blu-ray Disc
According to a recent report on HotHardware it seems that TDK have really pushed the limits with Blu-ray media, so much so that they are rumored to have created a 320GB Blu-ray disc, in total this disc has 13 layers.
It seems that the disc consists of 10 writable layers, each layer holds 32GB, perhaps the best thing about this disc is the fact that it can be read and written to using the same standard of blue-violet semiconductor lasers as is used in today’s Blu-ray readers and writers.
The other three layers are cover and coat layers and a Si-Cu alloy layer, the discs are said to be pretty reliable, however I would imagine they will be extremely expensive, I wouldn’t fancy burning a 320GB disc only to find its a coaster! For more information check out HotHardware’s article here.
