Default Need to Merge two AVI files Seamlessly

i have two 408mb avi/mpg4 files i plan on combining with convertxtodvd. i do it all the time. the question is can i make a menu with this program that will show both files as one instead of 2 seperate files, and would have the scene selection like on a real dvd? if so does anyone have a link to a TUT or any other FREE program that might help this process? or something like this to help me out?

DVD Need to Merge two AVI files Seamlessly

Ok Rob, I think that I finally understand what you are wanting to do. When you say that ConvertX has joined the files, that is not exactly correct. What you have on your dvd are 2 separate files correct? So when you have the program create the menu, it gives you 2 titles, which then have separate chapters from then on? What you need to do is combine the .avi files into a single file prior to running through convertx. An easy way to do this is with VirtualDub. Available HERE.

Once installed, open up the program and click "File ==> Open Video File" find the first file you want and click it. Next go to "Video" and click on "Direct Stream Copy." Next go back to "File ==> Append AVI Segment." (Yours will, but as a side note the file formats have to match to do this.) Last, select "File ==> Save AVI" and name it and choose your save location. When it is done processing, you will have a single file that can then be run through ConvertX and made into DVD with menus and chapters. Hopefully this works for you, let us know.

yes you are 100% correct. guess i didnt make that to clear.. sorry. but yes i get 2 files to choose from in the menu and then when i click on one of them it has the scene selection there and chapters for that title. thats correct.
i will have to try virtualdub. from what you described is what i want to do exactly..... thanks alot.

You are welcome I think it will work for you, I tried combining 2 files before I posted and it worked, however I didn't run the results through convertx, but I don't see that there will be any issue there.

Can you watch .avi files on your system? Using MPC or VLC?

I believe that both of those use direct show codecs. You dont have any codec packages like K-lite then?

If you don't have any codec packs, then try dl the x-vid codec from here and see if that helps.

Yes. when you append it is adding the second file to the end. So did it work? You got me on the edge of my seat
