    Default Divx to Divx

Ok, bought a couple of LCD t.v's my daughters, they have the usb on the side so they can play AVI's When I put on a film 700mb ish they play fine. When I put a divx movie on about 1.4gb the movie plays, but know sound. I think compressing it agin to 700mb should work ( drops the sound quality I hope). I need a program that does it QUICK!!

    Any ideas

    Thanks in advance
    Steve

Have you tried checking the product support pages for you particular televisions? I can't see how recompressing the video will change anything. Are you sure that all of your movies are encoded using the same format? The term AVI simply refers to the container which houses both the video and audio files. They could be encoded with a number of differing formats on both the video and audio side. You can try downloading this program GSpot and running your files through it to see if and where the differences lie.

Thanks for the reply, I'll take a look at the support pages, but there does tend to be a pattern, where only files less then a gig play both vid & audio. Ill run it through GSpot and ill get back. It does say AVI (divx) on the TV but like you say, there are a few compression modes now.

you might find that the 700 mbs file audio is mp3 and the larger one is AC3 better quilty and your tv wont play all audio codecs as i had the same prob with my samsung tv

I tend to lean to the idea that it's an inherent audio issue (mp3 vs. AC3) than anything else. Though, a newer tv should be equipped to handle it. I'm also in agreement that re-compressing it may serve no purpose whatsoever. A file size may be the trend you're seeing but not the means by which it's occurring. The tv doesn't care about the size of the file, only the format of the information provided it.

So, give us all the good information. type/brand (model number if possible) of the tv.

Is it AC3 audio or MP3 audio?

Do the these same larger files play and sound fine on a pc?

    Hi Guys, sorry for delay,
The TV is nothing special, It's a LOGIX 19" LCD.

I have ran 3 Divx avi files and come to the conclusion, its the AC3 codec thats not in the Logix TV.

Karate Kid 1.3gb AC3 - Video no sound
    Camprock 700mb MP3 - Video and sound
    Toy Story 3 1.2gb MP3 - Video and sound

I ran all the movies through GSpot to see the proprties. There are a few avi to avi programs out there where you can convert the audio to mp3. OR just get another NZB thats mp3. I know which ones quicker

    Thanks for the help
    Ste
