Hey guys. I am kinda new to this stuff so bear with me here. I have a lot of videos in mp4, avi, mkv, vob and a lot of other different formats. I purchased convert x to dvd a couple years ago. The version is 3.3.4.106. It seems to work pretty well for most file formats as far as covverting the to dvd files with little loss of quality from the source files. I upgraded to version 4 of contert x to dvd and the quality of the conversions are noticeable worse. As an experiment I took the same mp4 format source video and ran it through the conversion process on both versions. On the 3rd edition I have selected "high quality=long encoding time". The 4th edition has been changed where you no longer have these options. What options you do have for encoding are automatic, short project, medium project, or long project. I have utilized the automatic setting. Once the conversion process is done encoding the 3rd edition software has the video_ts files as 4.08gb vs 2.03gb on the 4th edition. I know someone is going to say just because you have a larger file doesn't necessarily equate to a higher quality video and I understand that. The average video bit rate of the 4.08gb file is approx 5500 to 6500kbits. The 3rd edition is around 1300 to 1600kbits. I am playing the completed discs on a sony blu ray player with a 46" sony bravia lcd tv. There is a substantial loss in the quality of the lower bit rate movie. It also looks more pixelated if thats a word. What I don't get is why would the newer version software give you lower quality encodings.......Is there something I'm missing here? Is there something I can do to make the target size larger? In general the 3rd edition software makes the converted video_ts files twice as large as the 4th edition. Thanks for your help in advance.
