I'm very new here. First post. For years I have backed up all of my media, even BluRay, using AnyDVDHD, and sometimes CloneDVD2, or even Handbrake, or PavTube Ultimate. I am thinking it might be my configuration on this system, but I'm having a terrible time with Puss in Boots BluRay trying to convert to a file. Using PavTube Ultimate (latest update and latest update on AnyDVDHD) it will go to about 27 minutes or so and then say it is completed.

Reading your post, is it telling me to use three or four programs to accomplish this? I looked at ripit4me, and that is not bluray.

My region code is set to 1 on both of the BD players/writers on this machine.

    Any advice welcomed.

Iluvendo's post is for DVD backup only. As, like you said, ripit4me is not for blu-ray files. The use of all the listed programs in combination, gives the user more control over the end product, however it is not the only way to accomplish the feat. I tend to rip entirely with AnyDVD (without RipIt4Me) followed by vobblanker and then DVDRebuiler for reducing to DVD 5.

I don't have much experience with Blu-Ray backups, and none with the program PavTube, but if there are any other specifics that you can give for us to work with, we will do our best to help you try and figure it out.

Hi. Honestly, this evening was the first time I ever heard of vobblanker....I am assuming (which is dangerous) that I take my bluray and rip it directly from AnyDVDHD to one of the HD's, and from that I could use either DVDRebuilder (which is new to me) or CloneDVD2, which is also by Slysoft....BUT...I do not think CloneDVD2 handles BluRay. There is always the ever popular "ConvertX to DVD" or Handbrake. I have a feeling there is something wrong with the Puss in Boots (Dreamworks) DVD itself, as it would not even let me rip it to HD. I'm trying another BD of mine to make sure there is nothing wrong with the configuration, drivers or drives.

I have about 50 blank BD's...I like to keep my purchased copies as clean as possible, so will use backup copies until they are no longer usable for whatever reason, and then copy them again, as they are not cheap!!!!

There is a separate version of Rebuilder for Blu-Ray backup available here:
    Code:
You need to register to see links. Register.
ConvertX is mainly for going the other direction with your files. For example, take and AVI, MKV, or MP4 file and making them dvd compliant files ready to burn to disk. Whereas handbrake will take dvd files as well as others and create mp4 or mkv files. Neither of which would be of much help to you in this instance.

If you have not had problems prior to this disk and when you check, are able to backup a different title, then the problem could very well be a bad disk. I checked over on the slysoft forum and did not find there to be any issues with this movie.

I should explain something. I can easily build a computer from scratch, and am very familiar with Slysoft as I've had all of their software except Game Jackal (I'm not into anything but word games). I did check Slysoft many times. After doing a gazillion rips over the years (I collect Disney...had to throw out all the VHS tapes and start over as the library no longer accepted VHS donations) two BD disks and one regular DVD gave me problems. But this was right in a row, so you can understand how it threw me.

The first disk I had a problem with was BD and it is Pirates! Band of Misfits. Cinavia. As insane as it may seem, after throwing away a bunch of coasters trying to go BD to file to DVD, nothing worked. BUT if I played the file on either any of the computers or the BD players attached to TV's (they all have USB ports) or even streaming from my home network it would play. So, just for the heck of it, I used ConvertXtoDVD and it did burn a Cinavia free, playable, and indeed very crisp copy. For further experimentation I took that same BD disk's ripped MP4 file and put a copy on a Samsung Stratosphere smart phone and a Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone (haven't put it on the iPhone or iPad yet).

This is where it gets interesting. In the house there are 3 or 4 Samsung BD theaters (all with wifi) and there are 3 Samsung TV's, 1 Sony, 1 Sharp, 1 Mitsubishi. The Sharp and the Mitsubishi do not have Samsung BD theaters on them, but they do have WDTVLive Plus boxes as I didn't want to put DVR boxes on every TV in the house. I don't know if you are familiar with the newer Samsung's or not. But they have something called AllShare which you can control from the TV, the BD theater or BD player, or your computer of choice or your smartphones (Samsung). I expected the movie to play wirelessly to the Samsung devices, but imagine my surprise when the WDTVLive Plus boxes showed up on the available devices? Not even going to Samsung TV's! So, naturally, I had to try it out. Flawless. The Cinavia that would not let me rip that same Mp4 file to even ConvertX without the Cinavia...played absolutely flawlessly on a big 65" TV and on a 72" TV...looked incredible, sounded terrific. BUT I cannot make a backup BD nor DVD without the Cinavia.

The next thing I bought was the combo pack of Brave. I thought I would make life easy and just make a backup copy of the DVD. On THIS computer it would not work using AnyDVD (latest Beta) and CloneDVD2, which is my normal route. So I put it on another computer using the same software, different hardware, and it worked just fine. I haven't tried the BD, but a lot of people have had problems with it.

Finally there is now Puss in Boots which I think I will have to return/exchange. It does play on all of the players, computer or otherwise, but every time I try to make a file from it, it will stop at 27%, 30% or thereabouts. Unfortunately my other computers do not have BD combo drives on them. I tried to follow the links you have here for that movie but fail to understand how that works, it isn't normal ftp stuff. I inspected the disk closely and other than the most minute of "scratches" there is nothing that should stop the disk, and it does play without pause in all of the players. If I get my hands on another BD copy of it, and it isn't from the same batch, I should have my answer.

Last night, just to be sure, I took the Muppets new BD and ripped that on this machine using my normal methods and that worked fine. Yes, I love the kids' stuff to play in the background as I work. I also love old time radio shows (mysteries, dramas) that are available free in podcasts and on the archive site as they are all in the public domain they are free. I digress. The Muppets ripped using PavTube Ultimate without a flaw or hiccough.

You can imagine my consternation when I had three different movies in a row giving me big problems.

You can also imagine my surprise when this incredibly small file put on two different Samsung Smartphones played so marvelously on big, high def, LED 3D TV's...especially ones that had nothing Samsung attached!

I have taken to buying the 3D combo packs, but I have not yet tried to rip one of those 3D BD's as I am the only one who does not get headaches from watching 3D. But for the sake of experimentation I will do one of them, perhaps Beauty and the Beast or Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp...and put it on a smartphone (I did buy the digital copies along with the combo packs, but this is just an experiment) to see how that little file would look on a big screen, transmitted from a smartphone.

I did notice that the last combo pack I bought, Brave, only came with 3 discs and did not include the digital copy...so I'm guessing now they want you to buy that separately over iTunes or Amazon or one of those. That is another reason for ripping. I paid for the digital copies when they included them in the high-end purchase....but since they aren't including them anymore...one has to do it themself.

Sorry for the very long book-like explanation, but I could tell from the way you described what the individual programs did that you thought I was unfamiliar with computer jockeying, so I thought a full explanation was in order.

Thank you...and if I get that other copy and it works, I'll let you know.
