Fail PEAA after trying to scan

    Hi
new to this, bought a Eurovox max v, pretty sure it is not a clone (no red paint and tuner is 8cm long). when I got it I plugged it in and it showed a list of channels but said no signal. tried to do a scan to find the channels and it deleted the list! now it will not do a full scan and just keeps stopping and displaying PEAA. I'm on virgin media and have just the free channels for the tv.
Next step was to try to update firmware!!! bought a null modem cable plugged everything in but will not find the receiver, just comes up with 'the receiver was not detected' and then 'no available com port'.
    any help please

PEAA message may actually indicate that you have a clone box and you may have flashed it with the wrong firmware, where did you get the box also have you looked inside at the screw heads on the board to check whether it is a clone or not? if it is a clone the heads will be painted red.

Alright, just to check, is the box on standby when its connected to the PC through the Null Modem Cable?

---------- Post added at 03:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:52 PM ----------

Making sure that the COM Port 1 is selected

    1) Go to Device Manager.
(Right click My Computer/ hardware tab/device manager)

    2) Expand Ports (COM and LPT)

Communication ports should be on COM1. (2/3 or also acceptable but COM1 is recommended)

If its not on COM1 then, right click on Communications Port and click properties.

    3) Select the Ports tab and click Advanced which will open up another box, then select COM port number (COM1), if that does not work, then you may try COM port 2 or 3. (if there not currently in use.)

If you have the correct Null Modem Cable then this should work (Serial RS232 9-Pin Female to Female )
