Playback recordings ex7000 HD to PC or Laptop

i have got myself the eurovox ex7000hd box {great}.before i buy external hard drive for recording i tried it with a usb memory stick, worked a treat,it played what i recorded on the tv but when i tried to play it on my pc no joy,it seems to be in files,can anyone tell me how to open these file i have tried 7zip but dosn't work.
