would it be evil to increase the amount of posts you need before downloading, or would the mods and HiTeck have to much crap to clear up, just a thought as i did my 1st download at over 7000 posts, what do the members think. not suggesting that as a figure but 5 or 10 so peeps have to have a good look around the site and see what qaulity is posted in every forum.

excellent Idea DEE i think it should be a minimum amount of posts so that they can see what we are about before they can download.
As Dan said some join get what they want and disappear and thats NOT what we want from members, plus these days all they want is to dl new firmware for boxes that either wont work now or in the very near future, then if the firmware down work they cant be bothered to find out why.

So yes a min post count would be a good idea to keep the new members - let them do what we have done and use the forum before they get their freebies!!!

I think not as techkings is not the only place in the world where firmware can be downloaded from. If they get the firmware here and it works then the name will be passed on. I understand what everyone else is saying but if it were me looking for firmware and i had to make a min 5 to 10 post count i'd get the hell outta dodge!

i agree with axxxo,it would only be seen as forcing someone to do something they might not be comfortable with, the forum is here to help and thats what we should do regardless the post count

the forum has quality all over the place,a post count wont mean much to someone only looking for firmware,as i see it we are here to help our fellow internet users on any topic we can, those that want to stay will, and if we helped those that dont so be it,lets not go down that route,Techkings is about helping everyone as best we can without looking for something in return

Well said to all the above, I can see the sentiments of Dee, Dan, Linny in that it is a little frustrating to see all the new members every day, only for them to dissappear once they have gotten their download.
as for those on the other side of the argument- Axxxo, sinno, tamarc, I have to agree as the best chance we have of keeping these people as active members is to give them what they want, then word of mouth will pass on. If, as in my case , someone stumbles across TechKings by accident while looking for something, and they find it easy to use and navigate , then they are likely to get involved and hang around. there, thats my 2 cents worth

True all the above but the peeps who pop on for a download seem to no whats what, so they no they are getting a decent download from a qaulity site they pop up from all sort of other sites.

true Dee, but what they can get here is available all over the place, so by making them register and then post, you are slowing them down and while here they might find something that interests them and stick around, if you forse them to post, lets say 10 or 15 times, then it would just clutter up the whole site with crappola like this http://www.techkings.org/nintendo/73...tml#post120808 , now i think that if you are going to join a site to hang around, you would go to the bother of using a name that means something

I have thought about increasing the post limit in the past before having the right to download but I think it will only cause more spam like posts as mentioned above. There is no way around it unfortunately, members coming here to download should know that whatever they download has been tested and it is safe, if they choose to post once then go then that's there loss and we dont need members here that only take and never give back.

Nice suggestion though Dee, but you cant win either way.
