Have you been watching Dancing on Ice??

I have a new hobby its called Off-Ice skating.

The 2 ladies that started it have been on Dragons Den- scary!!!! But they got a Dragon on board.They went with a different invester in the end. See thier story on their webspage. off-iceskating.com

Its a new sport for everyone that Wants to Learn to Ice Skate but can't due to their not being a rink locally to them.
I started Lessons a few weeks ago and have now traded my blade of wheels.
No its NOT inline skating as inline skating you cannot do the jumps etc due to wheels and chassis being totally different.
One of my Coaches is Neil Cushley and ex Olympian Pairs skater.

So next time You are coming over to the high street to meet me you will be on blades instead of in the car, this I have to see. how are the blades different?? they certainly look the same.

haha that might take a while. They are totally different in the way the chassis is made and they have 4 wheels and a foot rake and the chassis is shaped so it rockers. You only have 2 wheel on the floor at one time.plus the wheels are chamfered either side so you can do a skaters inside/outside edge. Here is a photo of the skates

You can skates on almost any surface.
The nearest Ice rink to me is about 50 minutes + in various directions. Where as this can be done at local leisure centres.

Its also great keepfit and far more fun and exciting that going to the boring Gym. Here your learning the moves and skills that the celebs do on Dancing On Ice

Now i have my wheels on my boots ive been skating around the house

!
Only floors that are flat ( laminated style) are kitchen and bathrooms - all if which are quite small.
Its quite hard work trying to get the wheels in motion on carpet - even very short pile carpet.
I did try to go round in a circle in the bathroom - but well went a bit dizzy - Wheelo - NO comment form you please

But next week is week 6 and i have an assessment - which we all hope to pass and will get a certificate WOOHOO!!!!! Oh yes you will see a copy of it. Then its onto stage 2!
Most of the adults in my class have done some Ice Skating so we are used to the feel as such, but the chassis and wheels is far heavier than the ice blades which means out bodies work harder. But we have been told we are far better than beginners

The great thing is with these is that you can skate on almost any surface - obviously flat & dry and because of the shape of the wheels and the Toe rake we can do skills, jumps, spins etc.. Once we are more advanced there are skids we can attach to do higher level skills etc.
If you watch Dancing on ice ( i know its on in UK not sure about other areas) then no i will not be doing any lifts or Russian splits

Dan Whiston - one of the professionals on Dancing on Ice is the guy that did the learn to skate video. You will see him in a few of the videos about Off-Ice Skating. Hes a brilliant skater, hey maybe as he is a friend of the lady who started it all we might one day get to meet him

If you watch Sports relief on BBC 1 (UK) then you will want to watch this weeks episode and see Watson & Oliver ( 2 female comedians do something special with these Off-Ice Skates. for a bit more info on the show look HERE
