    Default Driving test DVD backup

I am trying to help a friend out but cannot back up the dvd as its to big for the dvd data disk i have which say they are only 4.7gb data the cds are 700mb. the driving test pc dvd-rom is around 7.48gb.
Thought i would be able to just back it up to pc then onto a dvd, but not so due to size.

linnie, i am not the best to answer you, but what i think you have there is a dual layer disc, which requires a dual layer disc to copy it to. i have been meaning to look into dual layer discs as i have one or two projects.

if your friend was only going to use it on the PC, then you could save it to a big flash card and transfer, or perhaps you could split the file into smaller pieces and make 2 discs. i hope you get a better answer than mine and i will be keeping an eye here to solve my own projects.

We could get quite advanced with this if you were concerned about overall quality. But, we'll just keep it simple. You need to compress the file.

Dvd Shrink is the about the easiest it will get. (google search should provide a free download)

However, that being said; Wheelo is correct that dual layer DVD's are available for this type of situation. Those are more costly, and i would stay away from the el cheapos. Verbatims, made in Singapore are the best bet for Dual Layer discs IMO.

    For DL i use these:
    Code:
    http://www.supermediastore.com/product/u/verbatim-96542-double-layer-8x-85gb-dvd-plus-r-dl-media-30?search=verbatim+dvd+r+dl&max=15&offset=0

    @ Linny

Is this Driving test an actual program with interactive features or installs? If so then it is not compressable to my knowledge and will have to be burned to a dual layer as wheelo and 7th suggested.

thanks Yes ferg there are video clips on it that you click on and stop etc.

Sounds like the best idea is to loan it to her to put on her pc on the proviso that once loaded onto pc disk does not need to be inserted Item below is the one we have.
Not sure if my pc is compatable with dual layer disks to burn - or does it depend on software rather than hardware - how would i find out? its a new pc running W7 with 1 dvdRW drive

Ferg makes a good point. If it is interactive media (and not just a DVD) then compression will NOT work for it, and it must be burned as a DL with no compression.

As far as knowing whether your burner can support dual layer, you would need to post the make/model. This can be found in your Device Manager. I would have to assume that it is DL capable as most newer ones are. Knowing what drive we're dealing with will tell for sure.

Edit: 7th beat me to it.

From my point of view the easiest thing would be to rip the disk to your HDD as an ISO. You could then copy that to her computer and mount it to a virtual drive. It would then act just like having the actual disk. I hate to go in to a lot of detail without first knowing if that is something you already know how to do and whether or not you are interested in even doing it. Just let us know. There are many here who could walk you through it.

Thanks Ferg, no dont have a clue is the simple answer, and as i dont see her that often and dont know what she knows would be easier to do it my end. Thanks

my dvd drive is an ATAPI DVD A DH16AASH

Sounds like it would be simpler if my drive accepted DL and for me to burn it. Disk does need to be in drive for it to work as it is interactive and also give you test results.
