While this isn't necessary all the time, or even most of the time; occasionally you might run into a situation where you'll need to run a program in compatibility mode to make it work properly.
Here's a pretty simple little guide to help you out.
Simply navigate to the program you wish to run and right-click it. Select Properties then click on the Compatibility tab: which should look like this:
Tick the box that states Run this program in compatibility mode for
and select the appropriate OS you wish to run the program in.
Click Apply and you should be done!
(this does work for Dvd Shrink in Vista)
