It depends on the Desktop connolly72 but its basicaly the same. Some you keep dabbing F8 when first switching on, and then select REPAIR MY COMPUTER from the resulting list. Some you dab either F9, F10, F11 key or the like and they will boot into the factory reset program (lot of HP desktops use F11). If you can boot into windows at present most have a Restore program you can select from the programs menu. might be called PC Help tools, Recovery Manager or the like.

One important thing to note is not all Desktops (or Laptops) have a recovery partition, especially the older ones. So if you have no joy, you might want to google your model to find out.

    Good Luck,

You do not need a disk if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive connolly72. If you have no recovery partition then you can not reset your desktop to factory settings and will need to purchase a set of discs from HP.

Check the documentation you have for your make and model to see if it has a recovery partition or not. Or google your make and model to see if it has one. Any problems post the make and model here and one of us will find out for you.
