No you have to get vm to activate it. Not sure they would active it if u got it elsewhere. Plus i didnt pau for mine just paid for it to be activated. Id suggest contacting them or looking on their webite. Plus im not sure if it depends on what bb speed u have. So ur looking to upgrade ur present modem for higher speed? In my area we are currently being upgraded from 30mb to 60mb. If they are upgrading you you will need the superhub sp they should give it to u for free
