Car insurance

Hi

Looking for car insurance, been quoted £4,000+ on like a standard nissan micra or vauxhall corsa 1.0-1.2 litre

anyone got any recommendations for cheap car insurance for first time drivers?

ive used the comparethemarket and all that kinda stuff, still giving out pricey insurance qoutes, what a bummer!

i think depending on my postcode, Oldham area, the insurance premiums are high! feel absolutely gutted, i want to be the main driver, build my no claims bonus straight away

any advice or recommendations?

cheers

if i insure a car using someone else's home address, will that be allowed? or can it not be done?

want to make the price cheaper lol

not the wisest idea to lie to insurance companies, if they find out..........they don't pay out. the only ideas that i can think of were given to you in your initial thread. the only other thing i can think of is that over here, most insurance companies allow you some credit for being on someone elses insurance accident free.

j4v3d hello m8, just keep trying
one thing i've learned is that the insurance companies will always screw you on the first year. even now that you passed your test, you will have to get the first year under your belt , accident free- no penalty points either. you'll have to take the first steps on the ladder so
keep trying and take the best offer , happy- safe motoring

You could also do a joint insurance deal on the car with a parent being named the main dealer.

the co-op are the cheapest in our area. With me insuring a car for me and my son whether hes got a full license or not for a corsa 1.0 its around £1000 but i have told them i have 5+ yrs NCB BUT on my hubbys car. But that would have to be the car registered in my name with me as the named driver. Ive heard that if say he owned the car but tried to insure it under my name with him as a named driver they will either up the policy amount or cancel the insurance, but not sure how true that is.
Best thing really if you can afford it is to get it in your own name as your 21 it shouldnt be that expensive, but as you say its a postcode lottery.
Your 1st year is going to be the most expensive and as your nearer 25 it will get cheaper over the years.
But as said if you can get a parent to insure it ( if you still live at home - or at least have your driving licence at that address if your in temp accommodation) with you as a named driver when you do get your own say after having your licence for a year they should look at the no claims that you have built up.

only option is to be named as a second driver now, cant afford 4k

You could also do a joint insurance deal on the car with a parent being named the main dealer.

only option remaning next year it will be even costlier with the VAT rising to 20%

if you ask me its a load of utter garbage! :censored:

You could also do a joint insurance deal on the car with a parent being named the main driver
as long as you live at same address, and parent is fully qualified.
and then build up your own no claims discount that way, this is probably the best way.
Another way if your parents are insured to drive , you could use the same address as a link
for your insurance. Using the same company.
My neighbour did this with their daughter, its her own policy , but her mum went with her
to verify she was insured with them, she also lives with her parents.
.They used churchill .
Hope this helps.

its just ive never seen such expensive insurance in my life. in my province,if you drove a new vehicle and were a new driver you wouldnt spend a quarter as much on insurance as you folks do. again, wow.i will never complain about the price of car insurance here again.

i went with admiral 10month thing, still gets you one years no claim
i got quoted like £720 for a 1.4 polo,
then changed alot of stuff like job title (even tho it was the same job just diffrent name) and where i parked it, i park it on my drive normaly, but i said street and did other things like adding and experienced name driver etc, and found my car insurance went down to £540, so was a big save tbh!

so what your saying is its cheaper to say its parked on street rather than drive, and that say you had a parent as a named driver, did you also start with 0 claims bonus.
Reason i ask is i was going to insure my sons car that he is thinking of getting but just been told that although i dont have car ins - im on my hubbys and always have been i cant use the NCB we have built up as its technically in HIS name not mine. So not sure if its best to insure the car under my name or my sons as we will both be using it.
Its all very confusing. :(:(:bang head::bang head::bang head::bang head::bang head:

a, ithink the car would be consided safer on the drive than the street, b,if you look you certain companys will let you be named driver and let your son build up no claims linny, try hastings and elephant, and direct might also do it, trying to rember were i saw the advert.

well with admiral yes!, whether or not its down to area maybe?, some areas are safer than others, but i dont know how they work it out.
i simply just messed around with all the options, just things like "do you drive another car" (by saying yes means less time in your car, so less time driving, less accidents, etc)

i kept on changing small things, then getting the quote again to see if it had made a diffrence, as i said before job description, example: shop assistant and supermarket assistant come out at diffrent quotes? same as where you park the car over night, your obviously gonna say your drive as which i have done for my last insurance, but just i tried street, and came out cheaper so!

yeah i took out my own policy and added my parents, as the named drivers, they both have there own cars so both have no claims etc, but by just adding one it made a huge diffrence, 2nd named driver didnt take of much, but was something at least.

this year was my first year with 1 year no claims. before that my dad was the main driver and i was just a named driver (but this is illegal now? frontin?), it did make it cheaper to insure, but at the cost of i didnt get a no claims from it, i would rather of just started with my own policy and built up my no claims tbh if i could of gone back!!

when i first started looking around for insurance quotes about over a 1 year ago, i had some stupid quotes of 2k, for a 1.4 1999 polo! which was only really worth £900? i just looked around and managed to find other quotes for £850ish? so its worth to look around,
but as a new driver i would defently recomend admiral 10month insurance for new drivers, just builds up your no claims that tiny bit faster!
hope that helps abit!!

cant you just let you son take out a policy of his own, and then add his dad as a named driver if you dont have no claims?, some places do only ask for how long you been driving rather than no claims.

also some insurance companies, add in extras, like breakdown cover etc, so by getting rid of them that can also take down your final quote, and having a high excess, but they do come with the negatives, if you break down and have to pay out loads to get recoverd, or your car gets written off and you have to pay a lot out to cover the excess!!

your postcode plays a huge part in the final quote you get, my sister has quite a few NCB's and she was quoted £1,000

Thanks for that that has been very helpful! we spoke to one of my sons friends who is with admiral, so will contact them today. How strange that its cheaper on the road rather than your drive, but suppose thats because no one knows who owns it where as if its on your drive ( and your daft enough to leave keys that can be seen and taken via letterbox ) its more likely to get stolen.
will definatly be on the pc all day sorting out ins as my son now owns a car ( guy accepted his offer this morning) so if we can get a decent price his name will be better for him,as i dont need car ins in my name - im a named driver on our family car and will be on my sons . ill keep ya posted!

As for postcode - we moved to a better area but my postcode says is not as safe wft??? how do they work out this postcode cr^p on what area is "safe" and whats not

i've been quoted £900-£1100 on a vauxhall corsa 2002 1.0 litre 2 door, compare insurance sites quoting £3,000+

massive drop, and its fully comp as well, my area is just high, OL9 postcode is a disaster

thats good! who is that with?? just bought my son a corsa 1.2 SXi 3 door on a 52 plate so got to look that up today
