Openbox V8S - how to connect to the piece of crap?

I've been given an Openbox V8S to see if I can "get it going again" - ultimately to uses as a second box on a multiroom Sly sub (the first box being a Zgemma which is running a treat...)

I have been using Zgemmas for a couple of years now, and I know my way around Linux (and use Linux on my laptop, which makes setting up Zgemmas a lot easier!), but I can't seem to find how to do anything with this Openbox V8S...

It refuses all connections via FTP, Telnet, SSH, and HTTP.... :/

Ultimately I want to have Mgcamd running (to use an N-line) and hopefully a skin / GUI resembling something like Sly...

I have never touched these boxes before, so if anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful!

Sorry for calling this a "piece of crap" - I understand that that is probably not the best way to illicit help from people who know these boxes...!

Really? Wow! I feel rather foolish for thinking that the name OPENbox would mean that the box was, erm, open.....!

How do you update them then? Can they run Mgcamd? I can't even find a softCAM menu anywhere on the GUI...

I may be wrong but I'm sure I read it somewhere.
I had one for about 2 months before I slung it in the loft and bought a zgemma.

For softcam menu on openbox do this > menu> scroll right to where you see network settings> (IMPORTANT do not highlight anything) point the remote at the box and press 6666. You will now see an option for camds setup
Ok on camd setup
then either ok on mgcam plugin to add nline or ccccam client to add a cline

Fantastic, thank you Gary! Got this thing working again! :)

It's like a blast from the past - took me back to my Eurovox days, entering stuff via the remote. Although that said, for "non computer people", that is probably a much easier way for them to add their sub details than blundering through FTP and Linux filesystems...

The fella will be happy, but I will advise him to save his pennies and splash out on a Zgemma...

Thanks again mate!

Funnily enough I think zgemma are a piece of crap

Hey, horses for courses mate. I think the dual core Zgemma range (H.2S, H.2H) offer outstanding value for money for people who know their way around Linux, are a bit geeky, like to customise things, and use the box for more than just watching live TV. This is the only Openbox I have ever experienced, and for someone who justs wants to be able to enter some details via the remote and then watch telly for a year - it certainly gets the job done.

I was in a bit of a mood when I originally posted too....
