Oscam on Vix

Hi guys,

I thought best to create new thread as wasnt getting responses in the other one.

I had taken a test line from a good friend on here but unfortunately it was glitching/freezing to no end. I did think it was the server, but I think it may be my setup more more specifically Oscam. Could it be possible that my box cant handle Oscam if that even makes sense?

Plus I have been having my box crashin constantly which never really happened as much since I changed to Oscam from Mgcamd.

However I have reflashed the box and am trying to setup Oscam from scratch now with two combo lines on VIX.

Couple of questions.

1. What files do I actually need and where is the best place to download them?

2. I have noticed there were 4 versions of Oscam in plugins but which is the stable version to download and use? I tried both versions of Oscam latest but have same issues.

3. I have two combo n lines. So would I need to set protocol to just newcamd in both readers as was hoping to add Mgcamd as been using that softcam for my lines for a while now?

4. Are the CAIDs always the same numbers or can they differ and is this mandatory to have in the reader field?

I rather do all this from scratch so I know for a fact if same issues with freezing/glitching occur then its my setup or Oscam isnt suitable for my box and then I will go back to Mgcamd.

Answers would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

EDIT dont know what happened but title is not showing on the thread. Is it possible to change thread title to Oscam on VIX.

1. You'll need a config file, usally someone will give you a file that has usally been set up for you. Have you a config file?
2. Probably best to try a few versions to see what suits you receiver.
3.if you have N lines then you will use newcamd protocol, if C lines then CCcam protocol.
Mgcamd is not for use with oscam, that's another softcam.
4.The caid is the service identification no for example astra 28.2 (sly) is 0960,0963
These don't change. There needed in some instances and not in others. Depends what your doing with Oscam.
Regarding doing this all from scratch I would advise asking on forums that have a greater knowledge of Oscam. The usual way is to get a config file off someone that offers you one or ask for one in a forum. This way most of the work is done for you.

I hope I have shed some light on this subject, feel free to respond should you have any questions ;-)

I have got a config file. But would not be best just to start from scratch and where could I get all the files I need?

I have tried a couple of versions but I really dont know what the best version of oscam is to download. Which would you advise to download mate?

So there is no mgcamd protocol as I thought that was softcam like CCcam and newcamd?

Also I read on the other thread you have to convert the c or n lines to work in oscam but how would you do that?

What is the point of caid though? So the numbers always stay the same. What is VM no? I am confused so would I need caid or not? How would I know if caid is needed and is it best to have it in the oscam setup anyway?

Ok I just thought doing it from scratch would solve some issues I am having especially box crashing mostly every day now. Whether its because of Oscam I really have no idea.

Thanks for your help. Apologies for all these questions. Am so confused with oscam and basically everything that is really technical and complex.

I'd look into why your receiver is crashing every day. Then look at Oscam. I've never heard of oscam crashing a receiver.
Uk cable caid is 1841, I've no way of knowing what servers your connecting to so I can't answer that question.
The mentioning of converting C or N lines is just terminology, your not actually doing anything to the line, your just entering the info from your supplier into a file (oscam.server)
If its not for you just use a standard softcam such as Mgcamd and spend some time researching Oscam, I'm sure Google contains some information

This is how my oscam.server looks. It seems to work okay.

Well I cant figure out why the ring at the top happens which makes me turn box off.

I really have read alot on Oscam but I dont know what to do.

Where do I get the files that I need? What oscam version do I download? Where do I enter caid numbers?

I thought I could follow the ATV setup but I was told it was different on VIX but I havent been told how to set it up.

I truly give up.

Maybe try openATV as it's a little easier to set up. All the files are in place once you download Oscam (r11214)
I find openvix in general can be buggy and crash at any given time.
ATV seems to run better (in my opinion)
If your receiver is playing up a reflash will only help things not make it worse.

Thing is mate I am so used to VIX I dont really want to move to a completely new image/firmware.

Tried a reflash but that damn ring appears at least every couple of days. Not sure if my box is ruined now. That has really got me worried. Plus I have a HDD in the box and with turning it off alot I am really concerned that my HDD will die soon because of that. I am struggling as it is I cant afford to purchase another HDD.

I found a website which has CCcam to Oscam converter I guess thats how you get the required files. Dont want to post the link to website in case it breaks any rules.

Anyway thanks for your help mate. Will try to figure out the problems with box and how to setup up Oscam properly somehow. If I cant then it is what it is.

Thank you for your help. Really do appreciate it.

Yes, I suppose you get used to an image.
Your HDD should be fine, its a simliar HDD that goes into a computer and computers get turned on and off loads.

All files for Oscam on vix go into the etc / tuxbox / config file.

you only need a oscam.config and oscam.server file in there for it to work.

Has said above it is more than lightly another program running on boot up like tsmedia or itpv crashing your box than oscam.

So those two oscam files are all you need as I have been given 5 files in total when I tested oscam originally?

Thats the thing mate I dont have tsmedia or IPTV plugins installed so no idea.

So I followed the instructions copied two readers inputted line details in Oscam.server and FTPed but no premium channels are clearing.

Not sure what I have done wrong.

Do I need to edit oscam.config and oscam.user?

This way works for me on a Vu+ receiver

To use CCcam on this receiver you need to install Oscam on your receiver, as the CCcam emulator doesn’t work on ARM processors.

The only thing you need to do is to add the following code in your config file which is oscam.server
If you don’t have it simply create a file and name it oscam.server and put it in this directory:
/etc/tuxbox/config/

[reader]
label= ***.***
protocol= cccam
device= ****.****,30000
user= myusername
password= mypassword
inactivitytimeout= 30
group= 1
cccversion= 2.1.4
ccckeepalive= 1

The above is worked out form a CCcam to Oscam converting software

[reader]
label = VMnewcamd
protocol = newcamd
device = vmserver.net, port
key = 0102030405060708091011121314
user = username
password = password
inactivitytimeout = 60
group = 1
emmcache = 1,3,31
blockemm-unknown = 1
blockemm-u = 1
blockemm-s = 1
blockemm-g = 1

Would I used these same settings for protocol = cccam?
