Hi guys

Is it possible to run with a HDD in the rear usb for recording and a memory stick in the front usb for epg?

If so, would it be possible for someone to talk me through the steps? And would i need to reset/reflash the box?

Go into ur EPG settings, first option should be where u want to download it to, I use a micro sd ..then either wait for auto update tonight or run cross EPG downloader in plug ins

Why not put your EPG on a micro SD? That way you don't spoil the aesthetics of your box by having the front flap open.

dont know what build you're using but if it's Wooshbuild, details will be in the FAQs.

Ok, ive put a micro sd in, done the initialisation/mount and selected it in the epg settings

Is it now a case of crossepg/download now?

ok, for some reason, it wont download it :(

The box pops up saying "starting downloader" then goes to "loading data" then goes off (all within 2 seconds) so doesnt actually download anything

yes, ive tried a few times. Tried rebooting and trying again too, nothing :(
I'm at a loss then mate, try changing back to your USB/HDD and see will it download to that, you'll know then it has something to do with SD, and u can take it from dere, I personally had no issues

I tried 3 micro SD cards before I got one to work! Ok if youve got them lying about in old phones or cameras, but a pain in the arse if you have to go out and buy one. Think they're like USB sticks. Quality brands tend to work over spurious Chinese imports.

I cant even get it to work on the hdd, does exactly the same

If your going to mount a HDD for recording and playback just use that for the EPG as well.

EPG data is considered "live" data in that it is only read from or written to its storage media at bootup or shutdown times (or during a EPG download), the rest of the time it's held in the flash so using a HDD wont make any difference over a USB stick in this instance. Just don't save the EPG to the flash as it is very easily corrupted and if that happens it will very quickly fill the flash rendering the box unbootable needing a reflash or the flash cleaning out.

I would however strongly recomend that you use a externally powered HDD as the bus powered ones can be problematic as they tend to draw too much or too little power from the receivers USB port and this can cause the drive to misbehave (This is true of ALL E2 boxes).

I have now re-flashed and installed Wooshbuild and that has solved the issue. I have the epg on the HDD aswell and seems to be working fine so will leave it at that.

I purchased a usb powered hdd as the general concensus when i was looking was that usb powered were fine to use.

If it works for you then great but from my experience (as a former dev for the ViX team for 5 years and a user of aftermarket receivers for pretty much the past 25 years) bus powered drives tend to cause problems. As I said they either draw too much or too little power from the USB socket on the receiver and that leads to all kinds of instabilities including but not limited to the drive dropping its mount points at random etc.

Take it as you may but thats just my experience.

yep i agree as said many times externally powered hdd or some have said using a portable with an externally powered hub??portable never worked on my solo so next step was duo with internal hdd.
