Setting up a box for somebody else as xmas prezzy

Ballsy

Newbie
Hey folks,

Have bought a box as a present for a family member and I would prefer for it all to be set-up and running so they can just plug and play.

If I set it up at my house and put the line on it will it work at the other person's house? Or will the line be linked to my ip address? Any other problems I could encounter? They stay local to me so regional channels will be the same.

I was planning on using Whooshmans build with the sky q skin which is my current set-up.

Cheers

you'll be fine setting up at yours and then unplug, box will work as normal at a new address

3 minutes to reply.... What took you so long lmfao.

The advice and support on here is absolutely superb.

Thanks Garyth

The only problem you have with this is providing support if the box has problems.

He's said that its a family friend and they stay local therefore wouldn't think there would be too much hassle sorting out any unforeseen issues. :)

True but my in-laws are forever contacting me. Silly wee things lol

I thought if he connected the box at home... Then moved it to a different house it would block the line?

I messaged my supplier for a test line and because I didn't get a reply I thought I'd just put my line on it to show them how it works... The line got blocked.

Or is it because my home line was still connected when I tested the line at my friend's?

Be interesting to know because I have a few spare lines...

To save some headaches if/when they start having problems, ensure there is a copy of the line saved on the HDD or USB, and do a backup before you hand over the box.

You'd be amazed how many times a quick phone call has saved me hours of messing about. Simple to restore settings or use USB cam importer to reload a lost or dropped line.

Normally as long as the line is only being used on one box at a time. I set up lots of boxes and always install a test line at home first to make sure everything is working. If your line is a multiroom line then there may be a restriction based on the IP address but I dont know

Thanks for the replies, all done now with Whooshman's latest build.

Hopefully i dont get too many pesky questions from him lol
