SoftCam stalling

Hi Guys,

I have an issue on my h.2s which is running wooshbuild v4.

The problem I have is SoftCam appears to stall. The channel freezes up and when I go into SoftCam panel there is no ecm data. It still shows as running but no indication that it is not getting a response from the server. To recover it I usually have to stop cam1, start it again then reboot the box and then stop and start cam1 again.

This can happen several days in a row (occasionally several times in one day) or not for a week or so, so it doesn't appear to be an uptime issue.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what could be causing this or how to resolve?

Thanks.

What cam are you using?
Will only show ecm data on a subscription channel, have you looked at this when a channel is viewable

It's mgcamd_1.38r1. When this happens it's on a subscription channel, when it's frozen if I switch to a FTA channel the picture reappears immediately. It's definitely some issue with SoftCam.

Yes but when you are watching a pay channel and you can watch it have you looked to see what the ecm data is because this is pointing towards a bad server and not the softcam.

Ah, OK. What do I look for? The ecm data seems to refresh ok but I have no idea what would indicate bad data.

When the issue occurs there is no ecm Data shown, not even the no ecm data message.

If the server is dropping out then it can't talk to it, hence no data, maybe get a test line from one of the guys on here, remove your and see how things go, have you contacted person who supplied the line,

Yeah, he has said he can't see any issue on his side. My internet connection is solid too. Current line supplier was recommended on here.

And how long you been having this issue?
Always worth a reboot just to eliminate

Over a month, as I said the recurrence of it is very variable. I'll punt the router again just to eliminate as you suggest but everything else is working fine via the Internet connection. The zgemma is hard wired to the router too so no WiFi issues.

Well I'm Stuck for now, not sure what else to suggest, it's been mentioned to change your dns server in your settings before now,

Change the DNS on the zgemma? To what? Google? 8.8.4.4?

My router doesn't allow DNS to be changed, BT Home hub 5.

Have changed that now, but have noticed response time on the ecm data has increased from around 150ms to varying between 300ms and highest I have seen so far of 647ms.

Well could try different ones, there is a few to choose from, mine rarely freezes

I have a similar sort of issue. A few months ago my picture would freeze once or twice a day. In the past few days, when I change to a Sky channel I only see 4-5 seconds before the picture freezes. If I scroll through the film channel, I get to see 5 seconds before it freezes. If I leave it on that channel it can take several minutes, if at all to start again, only for it to freeze 4-5 seconds later.

I've updated the Wooshbuild and that went smoothly wrt downloading the image and plugins etc, so I know that my internet works. However, SKY is my ISP and their routers won't allow me to change DNS servers. I'm wondering whether they are playing silly b***ers and deliberately messing about if you are trying to access certain sites - such as the ones that are related to the line that you use?

The only thing left for me to do is try another line provider? My current supplier reckons there are no issues his end!

So having changed the zgemma from dhcp to static to allow me to edit the DNS server all was fine for about 45 minutes then it went again. This time I had a look at the network test on the zgemma and it showed ip address as unconfirmed. Rebooted router, no change. Switched back to dhcp and still noting even after saving the settings several times and several restarts of the network on the zgemma end. Rebooted the zgemma and it came back up. Ip address confirmed and decoding working again. So I'm going to monitor for a while and check the network test on the zgemma any time it happens.

Also thinking I might update to wooshbuild v5. Tried an update of drivers etc and it said system was on an old build and may cause issues if I upgrade.
