Hello all,

I've just signed up so please bear with me.

I have a few questions that I would appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction in, I'm doing some research for a friend who has VM connection with BB and TV and I've narrowed the box he requires to the Zgemma H5 (I'm open to recommendations).

  1. The box will be located in the lounge quite a way from the VM SuperHub therefore he'll need a USB WiFi dongle, I presume the dongle's are standard and an older one would work with the h5?
  2. As he wants to continue using his Tivo box does he need a splitter to split the feed from VM or will the loop out be fine? Is it the same principle as an Openbox, which is what I use for Sly? I.E Tivo box will need to be turned off for Zgemma to work?
  3. I've read the WooshBuild is best build out there for a near replica UI of Tivo?

Many Thanks.

If you can't hard wire the box use homeplugs as WiFi is liable to interference which gives a bad signal, you can use a splitter, I changed my 2way splitter for a 3 way splitter (one to tivo, one to router and one to box) and runs great

Thanks for the reply!

Yes good call I think that would be a better option. As far as I know there are two cables coming in, one for BB and one for TV in different rooms other side of the house, therefore only a 2 way splitter should be needed by the TV, I could be wrong.

BB & TV are both in the same cable unless thing have changed recently ?

When cable is installed, your tv cable will be ran to the requested room where the tv is situated and the bband will be wired to whichever room is requested. The cables run off a splitter from the inbound feed to the box on the outside wall of the property, or at least mines do

So have VM changed they way they install now Garyth as my cable gets split from outside wall of the house where one cable comes into living-room and another cable into bedroom and both have TV & BB down the line.

No not all, that's exactly the same as what I have. from the T off from the main cable, its normally a black cable which will run to your brown/ junction box which is on the outside of the property. They then split off from there, in my case I have a cable which goes left from my property to my garage conversion where my router is. The other goes to the right of the building which is for the tv feed, but essentially it all comes from the one feed from the T off

I believe that is the same as my friend, he has one going into his office for the Router and one going round house to living room for TV. Therefore I presume he just needs a two way splitter in his living room?

Yeah, if looking to continue using the TiVo box, a two way splitter will be required along with homeplugs for hard wiring purposes. You could end up with signal issues (I have the same setup as your friend) I use the Zgemma H2 combo box which has a weaker tuner so hopefully the H5 will be less of an issue. I'm pretty sure it should be ok as the h2h with cable seems to be a lot better in terms of signal issues

I see, yes I believe he wants to continue using the TiVo mainly for his other half, I'll advise him of what you said then, thank you!

I only suggested to him the H5 as it's a newer model and was only slightly more expensive compared to the H2. Out of curisoity do you think that the Zgemma is the best box for money? I know there are alternatives which are cheaper but from what I have read but you can make the Zgemma look like a TiVo with WooshBuild so think that is better.

Thanks
