Vpn nightmare

bawbag

Newbie
So guys, I invested in a used linksys wrt3200acm router last week pre loaded with a years sub. of Express VPN,

now either the router is faulty or more likely the firmware is crap(seems to be general consensus online regarding this model) as it doesn't perform @ all well on wifi with iptv streaming impossible.

Having paid a reasonable price for the router/sub. combined I decided to cut my losses & buy another new router & invested in a netgear nighthawk r7000 seeing as it was available locally & is listed as compatible with Express vpn on their website, turns out it's currently NOT COMPATIBLE having spent 2 hours on live chat with EXPRESS Vpn support who finally confessed there's a known issue with their firmware on certain models of this router, really not sure what to do now, does anyone have any suggestions to resolve my issues & get a working VPN on either router?
tearing my hair out here & down a few hundred bucks:sick:

My neighbour has that router and it works brilliantly with the vpn he has, I'll find out what software and what vpn and will post up.

That would be appreciated mate, I've tried everything on the linksys but no joy, it runs slow even with factory firmware, the netgear on the other hand is rapid (noticably quicker than the s.hub 3)but wont accept Express vpn firmware even though it's meant to

Took my netgear back for a refund as they've made it unflashable for Express vpn, after a good conversation with the good folk @ liberty Shield(who just happen to be local to me ) have now ordered one of their pro routers(all about speed for me) fingers crossed.

Sorry mate havn't seen my neighbour for a couple of weeks, hope the Liberty Shield one works for you.

Buy a spider pro vpn router just plug and play plugs in to existing router , you can subscribe to spider and you get the router included

working fine but dafty me didn't realise I had 2 MAC addresses on my TV, 1 for wireless & 1 for ethernet doh! guess what 1 I used for my provider & smart stb :relaxed: Must try change it over to the ethernet MAC

Private internet access works perfectly on a r7000 flashed with DD-WRT. Overclocked to 1200Mhz mine achieves 50Meg on T@lk T@lk faster fibre.

they've made the latest version of the r7000 unflashable mate, I tried numerous times & methods
The r7000p ???

Csn pick used r7000 up on fleabay for around 60/70 quid. Never had a problem flashing one yet.

just the r7000 mate, it's a well known issue check out netgear forums, units made in Vietnam I'm sure, can only downgrade the factory firmware so far back too but not far enough to allow 3rd party firmware to be flashed on to it, I spent hours on support with Express VPN & on netgear community & the conclusion reached was the latest model suffers this issue. I could flash no problem with netgear official firmware( I tried several versions)but they've obviously blocked 3rd party stuff for now @ least

I've got one here that says made in Vietnam. I'll have a bash at flashing it now. Maybe I've just been lucky getting ones that can be flashed.

Just flashed a AC1900 R7000 that says made in Vietnam with Dd-wrt v3.0-r37305 std 10/10/18

No idea mate, only going by my own experience, try flashing back to an old official netgear pre 1.09 34 something in the 1.09 2s & if your able to then your model is clearly not affected as I was unable to flash back further than 1.09 34 or so, mines was brand new from currys last Friday
