    hey karly,

i have moved away from kryptview now but the last time i was using them i found that every time i did serial port to usb it always gave problems and would not load software correctly. this was the old kv (before n3) but i think the principle will be the same. i had to find someone with an older pc with an rs232 connection and then downloading software that way.

never gave me a problem using serial port on both sides.

    hope this helps

    ok karlybob,

if your in a sky area then i think the best option is to get a dish compatible box ( loads out there but blade being the one of choice) get a sub and connect to dish. (box around 150 , 12 moth sub around 120, dish extra although this will work with an existing sly dish on house)

if money is a problem then have a look at starview 7 where you can get a 12 month sub and use it via cable (box around 100 quid , sub around 60)

before you do any of this you need to check if kv is still free because if it is then the best option ( or the free option) is the one you already have
i found that sat side is much more stable but if its free then i dont mind glitches.

    i hope this helps mate

kv is still free as in no subs needed,it is best flashed with an old pc with xp and serial port and a null modem cable to flash box.

Does one only need to use a null cable when the firmware changes and is it true that hasn't happened since April 2011?

no box has to be flashed once with the null modem cable and using the latest firmware in downloads, then you can update by remote through the internet to the newest firmware which is 29112011,factory reset and rescan etc.firmware has changed twice from the april one.

    Karlybob

First, if you need to use your USB converter lead, find and load a driver, the "prolific" driver usually work
Plug the lead into a USB port then load the driver

    Code:
    http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?id=31
Then find the com port number you are using on your computer.

Go into device manager on your computer look up properties on the com port you are using and change
the baud rate (bits per sec) to 115200

then wire up the box and computer using your USB convertor and a "null modem cable"

and use kryptview loader to load firmware on the box.

note the USB convertor lead don't normally give a very good connection
I had to give mine a couple of wiggles where it connects to the null modem cable to get it to work. It is better if you can plug the null modem straight between box and computer but on newer computers you will need the USB convertor lead.

    flash it with firmware 24/04/2011
its in the download section on this site, make sure you are flashing with A780 firmware
and not A750 as they both have the same date and it will be fine.

then do a s/w update from the installation menu on your remote,

Factory reset, then scan for channels.

Let us know how you get on
