A 24-hour garda operation to crack down on speeding motorists will get under way on Friday.
Gardai will be out in force from Friday 6th July @07.00 until Saturday 7th July @0700 with their speed cameras in the whole of the Republic of Ireland.
Their official statement says:-
Last month saw 25 people lose their lives in road collisions, the highest number in any month since May 2010.
Operation Slowdown will begin at 7am on Friday and will continue until 7am on Saturday.
Statistics show Friday and Saturday are the most dangerous days on the road and July and August is the peak time for fatal collisions.
Gardaí say a 1% reduction in speed leads to a 4% decrease in fatal collisions.
They say speed limits are not a target and appealed to drivers to slow down on the roads.
