According to a rather sensational report in the British tabloid The Sun, Premier League giants Manchester United have held talks with Milan star Kaka's representatives ahead of a proposed transfer at the end of the season.
Apparently, negotiations between the European champions and the Brazilian international have gone well, with a contract totalling €38.8 million (£35m) being laid on the table.
"It was a very positive meeting, although nothing was agreed," a source close to Kaka is quoted as saying.
"The player wants a five-year contract and wages of £135,000 a week. He is very keen to join United and these are figures that are within United’s pay structure. It’s up to them what happens now."
As yet, there have been no discussions between the Red Devils and il Diavolo regarding any sort of transfer fee, however, it is claimed that the Serie A outfit will hold out for a minimum of €77.7m (£70m).
In order to fund the deal, it is said that Cristiano Ronaldo might finally be sold to long-term admirers Real Madrid this summer.
Quotes attributed to Kaka suggest that the 2007 FIFA World Player of the Year would be interested in joining Manchester United.
"They have some great players in [Ryan] Giggs and [Paul] Scholes and especially Wayne Rooney," Kaka is reported to have remarked.
"One of my best friends, Anderson, is also there — how can anyone say no?
"They are the English and European champions and a great club to play for."
