Telefónica, O2's parent company, is to create 100 new jobs by the end next year with a new European People Services Centre in Dublin.
The Europe People Services centre will be located in O2's headquarters in Dublin's Docklands and represents an investment of €25m over five years.
IDA Ireland worked closely with Telefónica Europe and the team in Telefónica O2 Ireland to attract this investment to Ireland and is assisting with the set up of the new operation.
The new operation will provide HR services, support functions and administration to the 27,900 Telefónica Europe employees, in their respective local languages.
Meanwhile, IDA Chief Executive Barry O'Leary has said there will be three significant jobs announcements to come in the next two weeks.
Mr O'Leary said one of the firms involved is a significant world leader with no activities here, he said another is a very specialist firm involved in internet activities and the third is a financial services company.
Commenting on the loss of jobs at Pfizer this week, Mr O'Leary said that as a major international employers mergers and acquisitions at such firms will always impact on jobs here given the number of Foreign Direct Investment jobs located here.
But he said Ireland had fared no worse than other countries when it came to the global job losses announced by the major pharmaceutical firm.
