Default Man Charged With His Fathers Shooting

    Man charged with father's shooting
    Thursday, 1 October 2009

A 19-year-old man has appeared in court in Wicklow charged in connection with the shooting of his father on Tuesday.

Patrick O'Byrne is charged with assault causing harm to his 50-year-old father Seamus O'Byrne at Three Wells Farm, which is outside Aughrim.

Mr O'Byrne was shot in the back and remains seriously ill in St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin.

Patrick O'Byrne was remanded in custody to appear again at Bray District Court his day week.

There was no application for bail and the judge directed that Patrick O'Byrne be psychologically assessed.

The accused spoke briefly three times in reply to questions from the judge.

He told the judge he was not working and that he required free legal aid which was granted to him and the court appointed a local solicitor.

Sergeant Brendan Hobbs gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court when charged Patrick O'Byrne replied, 'I understand the charge'.

He shot his own Da in the back? Jaysus what's wrong with people?

and the judge directed that Patrick O'Byrne be psychologically assessed.
Isn't it apparent he's got a screw loose somewhere if he can shoot his own father in the back?

I dont think the bloke is the full shilling.
When the charges were read out to him, he replied 'I understand the charge'.

    No remorse, or anything
