Default BoI official's family kidnapped in robbery

A gang is being sought following the abduction of a bank official's family in Dublin overnight.

It is understood a number of armed and masked men entered the family home in Lucan at around 1am.

The family, including a six-year-old boy and three-year-old girl, were held hostage at their home until early morning, when the husband and children of the bank official were taken away.

They were driven off in a blue Opel van with a registration number of 07 D 69990.

The woman was forced to go to her place of work, the Bank of Ireland in Inchicore, and withdraw what has been described as a substantial amount of money.

This was then left in a car at Liffey Gaels' GAA Club in Inchicore.

The man and the two children were found unharmed in a van at Togher's Industrial Estate outside Naas, Co Kildare.

Bank of Ireland has confirmed that one of its employees and members of their family were the victims of a kidnap incident this morning.

In a statement, the bank said its 'priority is for the safety and well being of the staff member and the family involved in this incident and all of the Bank's support services have been made available to them'.

Gardaí are asking anyone who was in the Johnsbridge Estate area of Lucan between 10pm and 1am last night to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Lucan Garda Station on 01-6667332 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666111.
