A murder investigation is under way after a man was shot dead in west Dublin.

At around 8.30pm last night Jason Egan was closing his family's Centrepoint nerwsagent on the corner of Ladyswell Road, Parlickstown in Mulhuddart.

A lone gunman approached the 23-year-old and shot him at least four times in the chest.


Gardaí say the gunman left the scene on foot in the direction of Wellview Road. It is believed he possibly had some form of transportation waiting for him.

Mr Egan was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown but died there within an hour of the attack.

Gardaí are seeking any possible witnesses to the shooting and are looking for information on two cars found burned out in the wider area, a black Toyota Landcruiser just outside Dunshaughlin and a red Volkwagen Golf found on Valley Park Drive in Finglas.
