Default Cork city water turned off 'for at least a week

Eighteen thousand homes in Cork city will be without a supply of drinking water until at least next weekend after a treatment plant was overpowered and damaged by yesterday's flooding.

People living in affected areas on the northside are being told to get water supplies at a series of emergency tankers dotted across the city.

Cork city manager Joe Gavin described what happened to the Lee Road treatment plant as "unprecedented".

Water tankers to provide an emergency supply are located in:

    Ballyvolane Shopping Centre

    Blackpool Shopping Centre

    Hollyhill Shopping Centre

    St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital, Gurranabraher

Nemo Rangers GAA, South Douglas Road
    Moh has no water

Disaster Noel/Dee,when you take water for granted and then find its gone well.....never did i think id be queuing at a water tanker, some locals pulled up with trailers to fill their wheelie bins so that they could use that water for their toilet cisterns.

moh were in the same boat you and me, I took the gutter downpipe off my shed and had to stick the wheelie bin under that to use for the cistern, then que in the rain for drinking water, ironic

surrounded by water - but none to drink

Had to que for an hour earlier for some water, why the water tanks dont drive to the affected areas spend an hour there and move on somewhere else, plenty of people dont have cars, since last night i have been getting water for neighbours, you should have no problem filling your wheelie firsthand ( i have done the same) as Met Eireann warns that there is worse to come and look at my avatar you would think i like rain . we will be sharing the boat if this keeps up firsthand
