Arklow murder case under way
A Garda murder investigation is under way after a man was stabbed to death in Arklow, Co Wicklow, last night.
John Deasy (44) was stabbed by a man as he went to the aid of a female assistant at his corner shop at St Peter's Place at about 8pm.
It is believed the shopkeeper, a father of two, was upstairs when the man entered the shop at around 8pm. Mr Deasy came down and confronted the robber but was stabbed once in the chest.
Emergency services fought unsuccessfully for around an hour to save Mr Deasy’s life.
The scene has been preserved and the services of the State Pathologist have been requested. A postmortem is due on the body today.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed anything to contact them at Arklow or Wicklow Garda stations.
