Actually I tend to agree I used to use avast many years ago but changed for some reason, I can't remember why it's that long ago but those pop ups trying to flog you the avg tune up do get a bit irritating too old and set in my ways to change now.

I find AVG heavy on cp useage, although most ant virus/malware are cloud based. I use Webroot. It scans incredibly fast..very light cpu useage..its only £16.00 on flea bay. Best free one is Avast.imo.

AVG is not good anymore, it clogs your memory up quite bad. Avast is pretty good but recent update is making it heavy too.

If you bank with Barclays you can get a full version of Kaspersky Internet suite including anti virus for free for life. All you do is sign in to your Internet bank and click the Kaspersky offer link and they email you an activation code. Kaspersky is by far the best to use. Wipes the floor with avast and avg also if your worried about power there is a gaming mode built in you can activate to reduce running power. Have a look. It's a 3 user license too. If your not barclays find a friend that is. Also if you have a joint account both people on the account can request a code so that 6 licences for free!!

Stewart_uk, thanks for that info pal! Very useful!

To add to that info: Sky customers can get Mcafee 12 months free too...

I see a few replies to this thread regarding Avast V's AVG...in terms of detection percentages...AVG is better/quicker than Avast in terms of detection ratios but both are poor when it comes to trojan detecting.

Ever want to scan a file and get best results? Go to: www.virustotal.com and upload and scan to get results of 56 different AV's.

Best AV?

Eset NOD32 - will detect 9/10 encrypted rootkit trojan stubs (basically a back door agent to your OS)...hope that makes sense...i have included 2 pics below. Cutting it short...its a trojan...before and after encryption (Encryption method: Polymorphic Stairs injection)
scanned online against 35 different AV's...as you can see Avast rekons the raw trojan is clean! AVG detects raw is trojan...after encryption...only detecting AV is Eset NOD32.

Hope this helps.
