Hi guys,

Yip after years and years of staying safe etc. I've succumb to a nasty piece of shite,

search a.akamaihd.net

Keeps defaulting my browser to other web sites yahoo. etc and blah blah.

I've run

Spyhunter 4 which finds it and then says it's deleted it.

after that you have to run "junk removal tool" and then " adwcleaner"

Done it all and been all over the net and I can't shift this darn thing !

Doing my head in now.....

Cheers

yeah tried that matey, and tried CCleaner. also NOD32 ESET which I have on my PC, malware bytes, just about everything....keeps coming back.

Thanks mate, tried it... not looking good is it?

had this PC since 2011 and this is the first! gutted....ever so careful!

Have you tried resetting browser and clearing the cache? Also update chrome after you,ve done this, Just incase it needs an update.

yeah tried it mate.

Used "hijack" this years ago, think i might end up down that road like.

Can't shake it

thanks matey for them, have tried them over the last day and a bit, looks like i'm stuck with it. Just had an idea, do have a network here, I wonder if it's lurking on another PC, not a huge business network, just a home one and as it's a browser issue then i do have chrome linked on all the machines, I'm going to try again but disconnect all machines from syncing etc. in chrome and see what's what with that, I'm totally gutted about this, embarrassing :/

Going to disable all extensions etc. and live with it like that on all machines and see which one rears it's ugly head. Soooo thinking of getting a mac. got a linix machine that i might fire up, least that way not got this dam malware,

So what is it? is it malware or a virus?

Thanks

Thanks mate.

Well i think i've got rid of it! (i think...) Woot :)

Thanks for all the support and help and jesus, hope no one ever gets that like, and where it come from is still annoying me! but hey.....

So yeah, download and run Rkill 2.8.3 by Lawrence Abrams (Grinler)

RKill terminates and removes the most stubborn malware infections, RKill kills processes that prevent anti-malware tools from running, removes bad Registry entries, and fixes policies that prevent some anti-malware tools from running.

Hey, I just got here and I was seeking for a solution to get rid of Toptonews.net. I did use search - found this "...hijacked the default internet browser" recent post on other forum and tried manual removal guide but it did not help (even using suggested there anti-malware app). And now I am thinking of using SpyHunter recommended by some posts. Should I download it? Does it help?

Thank you!

Yeah... Adware is not fun. Since it is made to generate traffic to dangerous websites it can hide pretty good. Unfortunately, it can also install itself to your computer. To remove it you can use the following steps:
1. Restart your PC in “Safe mode with networking”
2. Remove any unrecognized plugins from chrome.
3. Check your Programs and features and see if there are any new recently installed programs that you don’t recognize. If there are, remove them.
4. Scan your PC with anti-malware software, something like Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes. Both are tested to work well against this malware.
5. Restart your PC in normal mode and do an additional scan to confirm that the malware is gone.
That should solve the issue. For future reference, I recommend being very careful with browsing and file downloading. Often shady links can contain malware such as this. Good luck!
