Can the latest Kindle Fires be converted to proper android ?

Hi all,

As above really - if I buy a brand new Fire can it be rooted/converted to Lollipop or Marshmallow ?

I know the older generation ones could but have they been locked down since?

99% sure the answer is no. Any reason why? Many android APKs can be used on the the fire tablet.

It is for my son.

He used to have an older generation Fire and hated the Amazon store compared to Google Play.

Can Google Play be side loaded on ? And if so is the Fire a lot more compatible with Google Play apps/games than before?

I read somewhere that it had been done but never tried myself (have a good). Not sure every app would be compatible though. I imagine certain games will present a problem due to processing power

I had my dad's (86) fire set up and rooted as per Root junkeys video on youtube , had smart launcher loaded as default launcher and everything was easy to access for him, yesterday it looks like it's upgraded itself to 5.4.0.1 and has reverted to stock amazon format. Is there anyway to get round this at the moment? Any ideas folks?
