I want TV upstairs????

Y2KMC

Newbie
So i used to have Sky multi-room, now i have a Zgemma box in one room and in the other is Sky box with just freeview. I want a TV in the bedroom as well as the ones down stairs. What would be the best way to possibly get another Zgemma box upstairs with obviously all the wires? Or what is on down stairs to come through my TV upstairs. Any help would be great. Thanks

You have a couple of options there without needing all new cables,What type of broadband do you have,There is a plugin which will allow you to run the 2nd box off the one down stairs or you could look at iptv if you have fibre

The new VIX fallback plugin works very well if you use fallback mode. I've an Edision with no tuners, ABM, EPG enabled and I can watch sky or cable over the network from my duo2. Connected via homeplugs. No wires or lines needed. If WiFi works well for you then only a cheap enigma2 box all you need.

Buy a smart tv that is compatible with the SmartIPTV app (£5 one off payment) then you can download the channel list from the zgemma and load it onto your tv without the need for another box as it's all wireless - the only downsides are no epg and channel loading times takes a few seconds.

get an amazon fire tv stick and install an app called dreamplayer, basically uses openwebif and a spare tuner to stream the channels on your zgemma to the fire tv stick so doesnt even need sat cables at the tv its using. It will let you watch your recordings too.
Its available on google play and maybe on apple app store too so you can try it out on your phone :(y):

You don't necessarily need fibre for IPTV. Yes it's probably more stable but I don't have fibre and have no issues.

Thanks very much. I have Sky unlimited fiber as my internet very solid around the house to be fair. Ok so if i buy another Zgemma box load vix fall back i stream what is on my other box?

You can watch different things if downstairs isn't recording and watching something. The new plugin syncs your main box bouquets and EPG daily if you want too.

Lovely thanks, would this do the job:
Edision OS MINI DVB-S2 - TV set-top boxes (Cable, Satellite, LED, DVB-S2, 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, H.264, MPEG4, Broadcom)?

Question: how do i then link the boxes and add the software to get the vix fall back uploaded?

Perfect. I've the combo one as sat and cable downstairs. I'll help you when it arrives. Then you've the Edision someday if your main box breaks, or can sell it as new :-). Everything will be disabled practically so will be fast and it'll be a mirror of your other box...

Great.
So just to confirm the only wires i will need is the power cable to the box (obviously) and the HDMI from box to TV?
Also what flash would it require? OpenATV? Open VIX?
Out of the Edision boxes which is best?
Thanks for your help.

That's it. Homeplugs better than WiFi though if need them(Wi-Fi built in Edisions at least and 2yr warranty).
VIX have the new plugin and what I prefer but can use ATV and setup manually.
You only need cheapest. Even the 50 quid octagon do but be slower. It can even be second hand with broken tuners lol. Any enigma 2 box you need just....

The channels importer plugin can be downloaded on most images as it's on oe allience. Just goto plugins, green to download plugins goto system plugins and download channels importer.

This seems a better way to do it.
I jumped in head first and bought the i55 box

I'm still trying to set this up
All I wanted was to connect to the zgemma downstairs and get the epg working
Got as far as watching TV not sure how I did it.
EPG a bit lost at the moment.

Might start reading this thread again.

Just run cables it's not hard people make out like it is a lot of effort it really is not and ends up being quicker then trying to mess about setting up other methods.

I wired up my whole house with cat6 and coax cables pulling them through cavity walls I have 5 bedroom house and every room excluding 2 bathrooms and a toilet room was wired up in a day (a few cable runs off dish and few network cables tacked will be hour work even for a rookie)

Very, especially now with the plugin they just made.

you can run a second box perfectly fine using the vix fallback plugin without the need to run cables
