Hi guys, appreciate any help available.. I've been running a skybox for the last couple of years but now they're starting to lose the channels I want I'm looking to change to a cabled box, I have live Virgin lines coming to my house, I just need to guidance really..
How reliable are they're boxes?
Are they likely to lose their channels anytime soon like the satellite boxes?
What's the box people recommend to buy and where to buy from?
Many thanks,
Dan

I've always found cable servers to be more stable. As for losing channels, nobody knew sky would go when it started. Nobody knows when these things will happen.

Just whatever you do don't buy a fully loaded box off eBay as the gift probably won't last.

Thanks for your reply, true I suppose we never know what they're planning, do I simply need a box to plug my existing vm cable into and a line like the satellite boxes or are these any more complicated?

Depends what service you've got from VM - if it's broadband you'll need a splitter kit to split the cable obviously or you'll have no broadband. But yeah, that's essentially it - might want to follow a guide on setting it up though as the tuner settings can be a bit trickier with cable.

Thanks, that was a good read, the only part I didn't understand was the, 'you'll still need a live vm box on the wall'
I currently pay for phone, BB and the very basic vm tv package, with a live cable going to the living room and upto my bedroom, do I still need to leave a vm box attached or can I just remove the two vm boxes and replace with a zgamma box?

Hi mate, cable boxes are very reliable (vu+solo se v2 from wos) get twin cable tuner and replace your vm box with it and set it up using one of the guides. you won't look back-as long as it lasts that is. Your set up is ideal for switching to a cable box. you'll need an "f" connector and an external hard drive for your recordings.
