delete skin that won't update

Using a Vu+ Solo2 w/ OpenVix installed.

I am trying to update a skyNEW skin (by chabs) I'm using to the latest version and it won't do it. The install says it was successful with 0 errors but when I check the info screen it still says it's running the old original version of the skin. I want to try and delete the skin manually and install the latest version from scratch.

I've read I can delete manually via the /usr/share/enigma2/xx directory - however all I see are PNG images in there. Do I need to delete any XML files?

I also noticed there is a plugin called "Chabs SkyQ & skyNEW Skin Selector" - is it necessary to remove this plugin too?

I thought the plugin gave the option to update the skin when a new version was available? With this said, it may depend on how long ago you installed it as Chabs has made some improvements to the plugin.

You need to remove the skin first from plugins so the box knows the skin has gone, then you will be able to install a new version. Once you have removed the skin via plugins you can indeed delete the /usr/share/enigma2/skyNEW folder too and then go on to install the latest version.

I would have thought one downloads a new skin and it then asks you if you want to use that to install and box reboots to show it?
Think on vix it has a few skins on list to choose from if needed.

@wooshman I removed the plugin and skin exactly as you said. Tried to install the newest plugin and I get:

Collected errors:
* opkg_solver_install: Cannot install package /tmp/enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu_3.0_all.ipk. Refusing to load '/tmp/enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu_3.0_all.ipk' as it matches the installed version of enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.net-chababu (3.0).
Unknown package '/tmp/enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu_3.0_all.ipk'.
Execution finished!

I did attempt to install this before and it returned an error, of which I don't remember unfortunately. I've tried everything I can to delete any remnants of the plugin, short of re-flashing my box, which I'd like to avoid if possible. Is there somewhere this package might be lurking? It doesn't appear in my skins.

If you can telnet into your box using putty, or using webif - terminal you can type:
opkg remove enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu

if that doesn't work use:
opkg remove --force-remove enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu

@wooshman Thanks for your help. Those commands have given me the most progress yet. However, please see below (via telnet):

root@vusolo2:~# opkg remove --force-remove enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu

Removing enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu (3.0) from root...

* pkg_run_script: Internal error: enigma2-plugin-skins-sky.new-chababu has a NULL tmp_unpack_dir.

Can you type:

opkg list-installed

This will give a list of everything installed on the box. Please look for: enigma2-plugin-skins-xxxxx where xxxx is the name of the skynew skin.

Check the name carefully and then type: opkg remove enigma2-plugin-skins-xxxxx

@wooshman

Thank you for your help. I'm banging my head at this point. I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. I hate giving up on stuff but I'm sensing that's going to be the solution...

I even scrolled through the list to see if anything with the words "chababu" and "skynew" existed and nothing.

Okay, not sure what I did, but the skin installed. Thank you for your help!

However, I now can't change the bouquets on the EPG. The forward/back arrows on my remote don't do anything. The yellow/blue -24/+24 hour options are reversed. Also, was his plugin removed on this version? It's no longer on my plugin menu.

As far as I remember his new skin has the plugin as it gives the option to change the EPG look.

I am not a ViX users so not much help but might be easier and much quicker to flash your box and start again. Backup your settings but don't restore them so you can get an idea of what was wrong. When you do restore your settings it could all go bad again if it is a bad setting causing the epg trouble.
