Hi Grog
Just a quick one I’m having problems updating software after pressing blue button for online updates
The message I’m getting and have done for the past week or so is there is nothing to update which seems strange
There is a thread already for this in the General Cable section as someone else has had a similar problem but I don’t know if he’s running your build
I’m just wondering is it build related?
I flashed free range about 3 weeks ago so it’s not old but I was under the impression that if you kept up to date with the software that’s all that’s required with this type of build
Cheers

I read the other thread the other day, it will be the same issue as most of the software updates are ATV software updates. You would probably be wise commenting on that thread if you haven't already.

Hi just updated my box how to I get picson back on?
press the green button and then the red button, if you then see picons listed select it and then select the picons listed and answer yes to remove.
Now press the exit button once and press green button once to take you to the downloadable plugins list, now select Picons -> snp.100x60-86x46.light.on.transparent to install the picons.

Hi Grog,
A couple of days ago I updated to your freerange version via the terminal, very convenient thanks.

This evening I notice the box has become a little laggy when navigating the settings,
and especially the EPG.
The ticker even occasionally pops up when I'm not making changes.
I'm not sure what is causing it, is their a way to see what processes are running?

I think I worked this one out.
I had added a network drive for recording/time shifts, I ended up with duplicates of 'epg.dat' and 'picon',
on both 'sd1' and 'hdd'.
I think the box was using both sources at the same time (or at least trying to), resulting it the lag.
I've removed them from the 'hdd', and reset on 'sd1'.
All seems nice and snappy again.

Thanks for the new image Grog.

I must admit, on my h52tc I mount the drive on my main box as a network drive, so I can watch my recordings either in front room or bedroom and at times that lags really badly, I can go months when it runs really well but then pushing file list and it's slow, also when playing a recording, for months fine but then for few days it will be so slow that the recording goes slow mo, the sound is out etc.

I am assuming it's either my network for some strange reason, router or homeplugs not playing fair, or if it's because I've got so many recordings on and the box is struggling to read the list, think wife has about 20 episodes of Casualty she's not got round to watching yet plus other things we do watch.

Balls, I was wrong about it being fixed, my H2H keeps lagging and locking up again.
No idea why :-s
Is anyone using else using a H2H having any difficulty's?
I might wipe it and start again tomorrow. Grrrrrrr!

try enabling a swap file, red button -> plugins -> swapmanager and then create one, 256mb in size.

I don't use swap files by default but on a H2H it may help

Hi Grog.
I had already set the file swap to 2048, on sda1 (usb thumb drive).
Could it's size be a factor? I'll try the smaller one to see regardless.

Hi Pablo,
189 updates! Crikey!!
I've not done any updates, I'll try this too and see if it improves.

Thanks guys.

UPDATE: I have updated the setup script today so if you do not opt to restore your settings you are prompted to enter a new hostname for your box, if you want to keep this as the default then just press the enter key otherwise type in a new hostname for your box.

It could well be, I only used swap files when I had wooshbuild on my H2S and then it was 256mb. I would think that the more data stored in the swap file then it would increase the read/writes on the USB stick which could be the bottleneck but I am no expert.

I'm after a favour, if anyone is any good at graphics at all, want a new boot logo screen for Grogbuild FreeRange if anyone is willing to make one for me. If not I will just use a new photo of something :) The image I used was 1280x960 pixels so similar size would be great.

Thanks

Thanks for that, I've replaced the old bootlogo with your image for any new installations.
