    ah well at least you tried! Ive been told that old sky boxes should give you full freeview channels but not had a chance to "borrow" one to find out.

    They do - I've got three. If you have any local bookmakers, like Corals, they updated all their sky boxes last year and the old ones are normally sitting in the store room doing nothing. Most are friendly enough for a pint

    You can record with a freesat receiver but with the Sky HD box, if you have no subscription with Sky, you can NOT record any channels.
