2 modems same address?

Not sure if I'm in the right category but here goes.

Just enquiring to see if this is possible.
My friend has a shop and his modem is linked up to the shop and all ordering from the suppliers is done through his Eir modem.
His living quarters are upstairs and I have him linked up using a Deco Mesh system.
Eir runs fine in Ireland until you have a problem.
It's very hard to get through to them on the phone
Their call center is outsourced to Pakistan.
Anyway, his modem is giving trouble with loss of internet and either an engineer will call to him or he will be supplied with a new modem.
He wants to get a second modem for upstairs for his own use to be independent.
His speed is around 40mbps.
He is wondering if it's possible to get a Sky modem upstairs.
So, in effect Eir modem for the shop and Sky modem for upstairs.
I'm only guessing but I reckon he will need a second landline for upstairs.
Ideally it might be better to have a Sky modem both downstairs and upstairs as it's very hard to get a problem sorted with Eir when things do go wrong.

Do you mean can he pay Eir for downstairs(business), and pay Sky for upstairs (personal)?

Of course he can, same as if he rented out upstairs, they could subscribe to any provider they wanted.

It would be, as you suggest a matter of getting Sky to install a new "landline" upstairs as both eir and Sky are piped into your house/business using the old telecom lines, therefore two lines are necessary.

I would suspect he rings up Sky and when they ask is there an old telecom line installed, he says no, because in effect, there isn't a free one.

Do Eir and Sky use the old telephone lines/telegraph poles system over there? Is there a cable supplier like VM available?

Yes to the first, and yes in most urban areas, we have Virgin media who use their own cables.
I got vm as a separate connection when I rented a room 20 years ago, they had vm downstairs but I got a 256k modem and tv box in my room upstairs, separate bills
