Stephen McGuinness, the general secretary of the PFAI, the representative body for Irish footballers, has confirmed that its solicitor will lodge a winding up order against Bohemians in the High Court this morning on behalf of two members of the club's first team squad.

The club yesterday missed a deadline to pay outstanding wages to the players despite their belief that the club is in funds.

RTÉ Sport understands that a portion of prize money owed to Bohemians has been paid to it by the FAI.

It is believed that as many as 10 members of the playing squad are owed up to two months' wages.

It is likely that from the moment of the winding up order being lodged today, there will be a two to three week period before the case comes up for hearing. That time will no doubt give Bohemians time to resolve the situation outside the courts, should the necessary finance become available to the club.

The two players who are taking high court action againt their club are owed a little short of €10,000 it is believed. The club wishes to resolve the wage payments owed to all ten players - not only the two taking legal proceedings - and according to The Irish Times, will continue to pursue that method of resolving the issue.

Bohemians are reportedly hoping to meet all ten players owed wages early next week to address the outstanding payments and deal with the issue collectively. The winding up order today may speed up the process of this crisis meeting between the two respective parties.

PFAI general secretary Stephen McGuinness was quoted in The Irish Times as saying: 'They club has been completely unreasonable in the stand it has taken and personally I can't really understand why they have acted in the way that they have.

'There's been a complete lack of urgency on their part and a lack of communication; when this sort of thing was going on at Drogheda United and Cork City, there was frantic activity.

'Bohemians have left their players with nothing for seven weeks now and seem determined to do the sort of "one-size-fits-all" deal that simply isn't the best way forward when you've got a group that includes different ages and with different priorities.'

Bohemians issued a statment saying that 'It is incorrect to say that the club made an offer today' and 'The club will make no further statement at this time'.

the club have to be tough, as at least one of the players is playing hardball, yet will be joining Shamrock rovers in the next few weeks(and still wonders why Bohs won't pay him the full 18 months left on his contract?? :dunno:

It would be an absolute shame if Bohs were to go under, it is believed the club have the money, but don't want to pay the full amount. the players have a bit of an advantage in so far as they know that Bohs have an asset that can be sold if they wont play ball, pardon the pun.
