Car insurance

H the co-op do which is why we used them. They dont insure anyone under 19 but are happy to have them as named drivers and they will count them towards any NCB for when they are 19. so if between now and the next 15 months George has no claims and we stay with them he can change the ins over to his name and get 65-70%

Will your parents not allow you to be added to there insurance maybe until your 21, also some car insurance companies will allow you to still gain your no claims even though you are on there insurance.

which insurances allow this then? it's hard to find which ones specialise in that

so is your son named as 2nd driver on your policy? i may have to do that, im 21 by the way, i just remembered i had made another thread on here about car insurance, any chance admin/mod can merge them? Linny40 how much did you end up paying then for the insurance? was it TPFT or FC

1st off not many will let you know unless you ask about the young driver gaining the NCB if no accidents within the 1st yr. All insurances will let you have a names driver, but if your parents are going to insure the car with you as a seconds driver then they will have to contact them, unfortunately they probably wont speak to you if you start it in their names. but as a 2nd driver they may let you claim the NCB instead of your parents, but as said you have to ask them its not always on thier websites.

But the coop as ive said cost us £2.5k under my name with my son as a second driver and they only sell fully comp ins.
I have also been told that youngsters always go for TPFT coz they think its cheaper BUT its NOT always. Peopel are under the impression that it is much cheaper, but i was told by the co-op that for youngsters its more expensive coz they know your trying to get the cheaper in knowing you may well have to make a claim. If you look up compare sites and type in Fully comp, then change to TPFT you will sometimes see there is hardly any difference, or that the price is the same or more expensive.

It also depends on your postcode ( area) and what car you are trying to insure - ie engine size and if its a bod standard car or got modifications or a sporty type. My sons car is a corsa 1.2 SXi ( meaning more fancy according to the insurance) and is a group 3. So check out what car your looking for and check out the insurance group.
One of the cheapest cars to insure is a group 1 = corsa club 1.0 and the newer the plate the cheaper it is so if say you bought a Y reg that might be more expensive than say an 02 or 54 plate.
Make sure you shop around NOt just for car insurance but also for the type of car you can AFFORD to insure, and hopefully your parents will let you be a named driver on insurance under their name.

For the co-op there is an add block at the top of the page on the forum which changes - click on that when the co-op comes up and get an online quote - thats what i did.

thank you for the quality post, i have a vauxhall corsa club 12v 1.0 litre 2002 model 3 door, i'll give the co-op an email, and get a quote, that is the only way forward i guess, getting insured as a 2nd driver on parents policy, my postcode is just high, all insurers do not want to touch anyone from OL postcode.

gutted, will just have to keep shopping around

how many no claims bonuses do you have Linny40?

as i only started the insurance a couple of weeks ago none for this car. I am also a named driver on another car a but could not use the NCB towards a different car. you can only use your NCB on 1 car at a time. so new car new ins NCB starts from scratch. No need o email jstu click on the linck and get a quote within seconds and if your happy with it and everything is correct like the name of the insured person is the same as the name of the registered keeper you can click the pay now button and be insured within minutes. BUT you must make sure that who ever is the lead name on the insurance is the same name for the registered keeper, so if your name is on the log book, tell them its your parents BUT you must get it changed asap otherwise if anything happens they can refuse to pay out if you give them incorrect info.
My sons car is registered in my name now, but it wasnt before we started looking at insurance.
All this is done to stop fraud and people trying to insure cars that dont belong to them.

yeh you got a good point there in changing the name on logbook, however when filling out forms for quotes they ask you who is the registered keeper, etc etc, there you can input in the information, so you wouldnt have to change the name on the logbook, too much hassle, if i cant find anything, im just going to sell my car, make a good profit on it, and stick to a Bike.

j4v3d look what linny says above about changing the info on the log book.........

If an insurance company finds any discrepancy with information you have furnished, they can and will refuse to pay out (god forbid if you had an accident)

AAAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHH! Sometimes i think it was a waste of time passing my driving... I'm just going to have to look around and see what i can come up with, im sick of ringing and filling online forms, its getting me nowhere so far.

£1283.33 <<< CO-OP fully comp quote, listed dad as first driver, will have to change name on logbook then if i go ahead with it, prices has come down from last month, well from October 2010, before with my dad it was nearer 2 grand

its quite simple. Just tell them its in your parents name then change the log book. All i did was write a letter and send log book off to DVLA saying it was put in my sons name by mistake - cost me a postage stamp and within 2 weeks it was back in my name and all legal no big deal! but if youtell them its registered in your name they can either refuse to insure you or charge you more! your choice.
does seem like hassle but once its done and your insured then your off and running and next year it will be a heck of a lot cheaper! and you can look back and laugh and help others out ( like i have tried to do) by sharing your experiances etc

i wouldnt hold my breathe Linny40... Experienced drivers round my area, there insurance prices have shot up over £200... i blame the lads from my town, there too much in to crime, and the good citizens like myself are the ones that suffer.

i rang a broker who does motor trade insurance, he said you are eligible for ROAD RISKS ONLY. told him i don't have a business or anything.

Types of Motor Trade Insurance cover available
There are various types of policies that a motor trader can opt for. Some cover road risks only; i.e. risks when actually driving the vehicles, and others offer broader coverage.

You have the perfect car fro a new driver, if I am not mistaken your car is a group 1 at the most group 2, you wont find a cheaper car to insure.

Also rather than fully comp try third party fire and theft.

yh but insurers dont care about cares anymore, if you are a new driver, then there is no hope in hell for them

Yes as ive told him H that car is usually a group 1 insurance, cheap as chips! but it does depend on your area and who your with as to whether Fully comp or third party is cheaper. As also mentioned to him co-cop only do Full comp which is often the same price or cheaper than TPF&T
