compaq armada e500 connection problem

HI, I'm trying to connect to my broadband router, 3com 3c589d -tp etherlink 111 lan pc card is installed but when I try to connect it says "network cable unplugged", had a look in device manager and it says "this device is working properly".. I don't have the driver disc or know where to get one, or if that would solve the problem, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

..updated drivers and changed a few settings it now says 10 mpbs connected but I'm still not connected to router and the card is connected with a dongle to rj45 to router CQout Online Auctions UK, CDs, fitness equipment, Movie Posters,UK Auctions online any ideas? Thanks

That's a very old machine, can you not connect via the usb port with a wireless adapter rather than using the set up you have.

According to the specs it has 1 USB port...

....yes I think you are right that's my final option, nothing else works hope wireless adapter will, if not Ill buy my brother a new computer. Thanks for you reply.
