MINI Edision OS Mini Recording Freezing

I have tried using both an external hdd and a 32gb USB for recording and have had issues with both for recording. Live TV is fine without any issues but recordings and tv after ive paused it and then started playing it lags.

what cam is in use on box and is external hdd or usb converted to ext3 - ext4?

I'm using mgcamd 1.38. trying to convert ext3 to ext4 gives the following error "error: unmount: can't mount /media/HDD: device or resource busy

HDD isnt externally powered which is why I tried the USB. And usb is 16gb sandisk USB 3
