I am awaiting the arrival of my new Edision OS Mini and although my question is about the external hard drive that I am going to use with that I guess it could relate to any box.

My question is does the USB external hard drive that is used with a sat box need to be formatted ?

The reason being is I have a 2 TB external hard drive with some movies/photos etc already on it but has loads of space left. Will I be able to temporarily use it on my sat box without deleting all the data thats already on it ???

If the external HDD you are on about is formatted to windows (FAT or NTFS) then it will need to be formatted to EXT4 to work on the Edision box, these boxes run a Linux OS and so need the Linux file format to work.
