External HDD, is this one any good?

Hi All,

Looking at getting an external HDD for recording and came across this one, which looks decent for the money.

Buy Toshiba 1TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive , Black from our External Hard Drives range - Tesco

Does anyone know if this is suitable / any good?

Should be good mate. I use the same one but the 500GB version. Remember you need to initialise the HDD before usage.

no that is a portable one,better to use a powered externally one that does not put a strain on usb ports.

My understanding is that an externally powered drive, is only externally power because that particular drive needs to be, due to size, rpm etc.
The average 2.5inch drive only uses about 2.5watts of power which the normal usb 2.0 and 3.0 are more than capable of delivering.
I have used this drive on 3 boxes altogether and never had a problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong! We are all here to learn [emoji4]

Yeah I saw that on Hot UK Deals, bargain. I've got the 500Gb version and it's fine. I thinks it's a load of nonsense about unpowered HDDs burning out USB ports. If it were true there would be a whole section on Techkings devoted to it. ;)
