Police in West Yorkshire have launched an urgent appeal to trace a little girl who dialled 999 to say her mother was not moving.

The girl, who gave her name as Ellie, called the ambulance service to say her mum had fallen at their home in Leeds.

She said she was three years old and that her mother is called Stacey Hall.

She also told the 999 operators that her house number was 23 and had "Mount" in the street name.

She said her grandparents lived in Bridlington.

The call was made at 10.53am yesterday but despite extensive enquiries since then the police have been unable to identify where it came from.

Detective chief inspector Lisa Griffin, from West Yorkshire's homicide and major enquiry team, said: "We urgently need the public's help to identify exactly where Ellie and her mum are.

"We are hoping that someone out there who knows the family will recognise the pieces of information that the ambulance call taker managed to get from her and will get in touch.

"We are treating this situation extremely seriously as it appears we have a woman in need of urgent medical attention and a vulnerable little girl who will also need our help."

During the call, that lasted 33 minutes, Ellie told the call-taker she was nearly four years old and that her mum had fallen over and would not get up.

She said she had shouted at her mum and wiggled her but she remained on the kitchen floor with a piece of toast in her hand not moving.

She said the front and back door were locked and she could not get out of the house.

A team of detectives has been making wide-ranging enquiries to trace the family, including checks on police systems, hospitals, and the public register of births.

Anyone who thinks they know who Ellie and her mum Stacey Hall are and where they live is asked to urgently call the homicide and major enquiry team via 0800 056 944.

they have to take it as a serious call, started at 11am yesterday, all help is needed on finding her and her mother which may have died, and that can leave a scar on anyone, pity no letters/bills with address to hand, pray for a good result soon (y)

they have to take it as a serious call

I fully appreciate that cactikid, but surely with the Info they do have someone would have come forward by now?

Surely they could have got the kid to put something out the letterbox (assuming she's on the ground floor that is) or even wave from a window or something? I know she's supposed to be only 3 nearly 4 but she didn't sound in any way under stress or anxious in any way either?

Where's Bookface when you really need it?

It is very odd that it has gone on for so long but I think the police should have got this information out quicker.

It is all over the news over here and all over the facebook groups for around this area but I agree we surely should have heard something by now.....

I added a mp3 player of the call to my post above as the police website seems to be very slow to load.

It didn't say on the audio snippet but I'm sure they asked, did the chippy have an actual name?

Injured mother 999 call 'a hoax'

A 999 call which sparked a search for a three-year-old girl who claimed her mother had collapsed was a hoax, police in Leeds have said.

West Yorkshire Police had earlier appealed for help in tracing the girl, who said she was called Ellie and lived in the city.

The call could not at first be traced, but was later found to have been made in Bridlington, East Yorkshire.

Two 10-year-old girls in the town have been "spoken to", said police.

i hope they get what they deserve, and i dont mean a slap:whacko::whacko::whacko:community works for a year might do them good.(y)

What a waste of the emergency services time, they should be made an example of!.

Give him a chance Gman, he only bought it in January:woohoo:

these "kids" should be made to pay, just so they learn their lesson, a naming and shaming, even if it is only at assembly at their own school, would be a start.
