iPhone 6s locked

been given this phone by a friend, it's been factory reset but can't get it to work as he done the factory reset without closing the iCloud account down. The thing is he's forgot the password and can't open it. Any help or ideas please?

The iCloud account email address should still be on there or he should still know he's email address he was using on the account. Click forgot password and answer the security questions he added when he created the account to set a new password

A factory reset erases everything. You should be able to set up as new phone.

I thought you couldn’t erase iPhone with find my iPhone turned on. I maybe wrong.
Anyway if he goes to any web browser and opens up the Apple iCloud website page he can reset his password if he has his account email and remembers his security questions.

Yes ASHHBI,i also thought you could delete your account on a stolen phone with " find my phone " [ i'm saying that Roversmaid22 has one either ?? ] and render it useless...???

If the original user can’t remove the lock from iCloud I’d give it him back as it’s useless!
