Landlord about to scrap said car (its on a 02 plate) as the car has no power going up hill. the engine rattles around engine bay. plugs, leads,ht cap and coil all replaced. Old had been well knackered.

its a 1.4 injection. any chance this is a cheap fix or has the injection gone.

cam belt could be on the way. or it could be the water pump. might just need a service.

looking at picking it up on cheap as eldest daughter has passed test and its her 18th soon. nowt like dad points

sorry mike that was rude thank you for the reply.:)

you hate your daughter that much you are giving her a clio lol,yes timing belt a must every 4 years along with tensioner and waterpump,no power up hill clutch maybe?

sounds like a miss dee.i would start with a compression test as you may have a dead hole here.if the compression is even and over 100-125 psi i would ask if it is a coil over system.in other words does it have a coil for each cylinder? if it does pull the plug wires with the engine running until you find one that makes no difference when pulled.this is the cylinder with the miss.swap its coil with on of the other cylinders and see if the miss moves.if it does the coil is fubart.if its not coil over and all the parts you say have been replaced its sounding grim for the motor.that having been said, when you pull the plugs to do a compression test take note of the condition of the electrodes.ie black deposits oil fouling etc.
